What astronauts will NASA look to send to mars?

Not sure what the rest of the crew will look like, but my 13 year old DS thinks he will take a pilot slot! (As long as the 1st trip is mid-2030's!)

I agree. It remains ENORMOUSLY expensive to simply put objects/people into Earth orbit. Sending large number of people to Mars or some other distant planet isn't practical given what we know today. People still dream of time travel or traveling close to the speed of light, but no one has yet to figure out how (or if) that can be done. Basic research is good, but talking up trips to Mars and beyond just to rationalize the budget $$$ doesn't make is practical.

This breaks my heart everytime. I suppose you mean their space agency has final say on who goes up since we are dependent on the Soyuz? I remember hearing the news about the space shuttle program being retired. I was so sad. I know NASA is working on a successor but its regrettable that the awesome space shuttle will never fly again.
