What Effect Does First-Generation College Student Have?

I'll be the second person in my entire lineage to go to college and, assuming I graduate, the first in my lineage to do so. Thus, I believe I can say 'Yes' to the questions asking me if I'm a first-generation college student. If this has an effect on my application, which I'm sure it does if they ask it, is it positive or negative?

Good job on taking the step to be the first to go to college in your family! I am a first generation college student as well. The Academy is looking for diversity, so anything that you put, on your application, that will fall under that category will only help you. It will not have a huge effect on your application but it only makes you that much stronger of a candidate. Good Luck!!!!
