What hotel does anyone recommend to stay at when visiting USMMA, we will be going in June sometime.

Thanks,
Suzie

We stay at the Andrew in Great Neck. We only fly in and don't rent a car. The Long Island RR station is right across the street and also the city bus station. The bus will take you right to the front gate. Pluses and minuses but for us it has worked well. About $200 a night.

We stayed at the Inn at Great Neck. A bit expensive but a great big room.

Where to not stay

Just not the Gold Coast Inn (no matter what the INDOC book says). On the positive side, after staying there a couple of nights it was easy for our plebe candidate to attend:zip: INDOC. Even 2 co. dorm seemed like a palace after that one.

I would say it depends on what you are looking to do while your DS/DD is on their visit and at the Academy.

If it's a day visit and you will be with them most of the time both the Inn at Great Neck and the Andrew are the closest hotels to KP. Both are close to the Great Neck Train Station and as has been mentioned you can take the MTA LI Bus #58 bus right up to the front gate so if you'd like you can avoid renting a car. Further if you want to get into Manhattan it's a 20 minute train ride to Penn Station. There are several places to eat near both those hotels in Great Neck and the restaurant/bar at the Inn at Great Neck isn't bad. Neither hotel is cheap, both are clean and relatively nice though the rooms at the Andrew aren't nearly as big as the ones at the Inn at Great Neck. If you will have another child with you I'd go with the Inn at Great Neck of those two.

If you have a car or if you will be renting one there are numerous possibilities on Long Island and basically most places in Nassau County aren't too far to drive or out of the way.

As has been mentioned the Garden City Hotel is very nice but also expensive.

The Marriott at Uniondale is also nice, typical Marriott and the Residence in in Syosset isn't bad either and both are about 20 minutes from KP...

I'd stay away from hotels in the city (Queens) as since they are close to the airports they tend to be pricey for what you get and no closer than the places I've just mentioned...

Anchor Inn

You could also consider "The Anchor Inn" in Bayside .... can reach KP via bus, but you have to transfer. If you are driving ask them about parking.

My son and I stayed at the Glen Cove Mansion last year for INDOC. It is an easy drive and the place is impressive. It gets a wide range of reviews, but our stay was good. Glen Cove is a nice town as well. People were really friendly and helpful to a Country bumpkin. You'll need to rent a car though.

Adria, Ramada, and Anchor Inn

The Adria in Bayside is nice. $135 a night with USMMA discount. Newer remolded rooms.

You can also go on hotels.com. For Parents/Acceptance weekend I got the price of $113 without the USMMA discount. The Ramada is right across the street. Just down the street, about 4 blocks from the Anchor Inn. I have stayed there 2 years. It is clean, but has paper thin walls.

hotel not to stay at

Would not recommend the Anchor Inn, we did not have a good experience with that hotel last parents weekend. You can do better. Pay the extra money and go close to Great Neck

HOTELS

Just to let you all know, the National Parent's Association is in the process of negotiating some very good rates at hotels within 15 min of KP for Indoc and Parents weekend. Once we have everything finalized I will make sure to post it here, but you can always keep checking the Parents' website.

By the way, the, National Parent's web site is in the process of being moved over to the USMMA Alumni Foundation's at: http://www.usmmaaf.com
