Hey everyone, I'm 3Q'd with 2 nominations. What can I expect as far as hearing back from admissions? Is there a deadline as to when they'll tell me if I will receive an appointment or not? It's just kinda weird having everything done now lol. I honestly feel like the waiting is worse than filling out applications.

I believe the letter says most appointments will take place March 1- May 1. Those seem to be the only dates shared at this point

The Admissions Office has received all your information and the Admissions Committee has reviewed your application. You have been found fully qualified and placed on the national waiting list. Several hundred cadetships will be filled from this waiting list with most appointments being made between 1 March, 2024 and 1 May, 2024. You are still competing for admission and should continue to update your record with significant achievements in academic, leadership, and extracurricular and athletic activities. Additionally, please ensure your school provides your seventh semester transcript to the Admissions Office as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. You will be notified immediately of any change in your status. Final selection from the waiting list may be made only a few days before the class enters. Thank you for your continuing interest in West Point, and good luck in your efforts to gain admission.

What percentage of the class do you guys think WP fills BEFORE march 1st? Do you guys think they're already at 50% full or more like 20 or so? It's march 3rd right now and I'm a little worried, but I've been trying to distract myself and get ROTC lined up.

If it's true that this forum represents 10%, then there have already been 1,000 candidates offered appointments. There are 100 appointments posted on this forum.

I would suggest everyone have a solid plan B. My DS had a senate nom and congressional nom. He was 3Q and on the NWL. Awarded a 4 year AROTC scholarship and accepted into a nationally ranked top 5 engineering school. From this it can be assumed that he had a strong application. He got a turn down letter from WP last week.

Looking into Civil Prep schools-JIC.
JuCo also- He wants to dive on the WP swim team, so he can't accept another D1 school and DIve for them(he has many interests) (he really wants ARMY), as it will count as a year down of your 4 year college dive career.
Would love the MAPS but unsure that is in our out, still no word?!?
He can go to a JuCo and find a diving club to stay in shape.
Any advice? MMI is online and really not what he was wanting. Maybe the one in VA?
Hoping for some clarity soon!

I'm sorry, I don't have any advice for his situation. Hopefully he gets appointed. If he doesn't, you are doing the right thing trying to put a plan in place. Search the forums and see what help you can find.

Has he thought about Norwich? I don't know if they have a diving team, but they have some in school ROTC scholarships available and a lot of people self-prep there.

I will help him search out Norwich. Thank you for the response. As long as he doesn't dive for a 4 year civilian college he can Try again to WP team....all my thinking though. Thanks again!

My DS has an LOA,3Q and Nom and we are still waiting for Appointment. Has anyone ever not been given Appointment even if they completed all the necessary requirements?

I'm in your exact situation, quite literally all we can do is work on plan B, C, D etc. and chill. Heard the bulk of appointments are going to come this month, but they've been known to come as late as May.

If he has an LOA and has completed all of the requirements, he will be appointed. Congrats!!

If DS was accepted to a top 5 engineering program, Id say he had an amazing application! Those are harder to get in than ivy league schools! Sorry WP didn't work out. That is surprising. As the dad of a HS junior who will be applying soon, can you share your thoughts? I know all it takes is someone from your district to be more qualified, but he had a senator nom, as well. Also, other academy parents said to not worry... someone with such a strong app, the academy will "find" a nomination for them. I can't imagine WP so competitive that they didn't at least wait to see if there were other nom sources out there. He received a definitive turn down letter, I'm assuming. These are the stories that frighten me, just bc it doesn't seem to make sense.

Not directing this to the OP, but there are many great candidates that get turned down every year. We can’t see behind the curtain to understand why. We can measure the many accolades and standardized test scores, leadership, gpa, etc..that we know , but that’s only part of the equation.
What we don’t know is the competitiveness of the competition on their slate.
We don’t know how their letters of recommendation were.
We don’t know how the interview with FFR ,ALO, BGO (respectively)went. There are ALOs,BGOs etc on this forum that can share stories of shining stars on paper, but were deemed “not a good fit” for the respective SA after interviewing the candidate for one reason or another.
We don’t know how the essay was rated.
These are just a few of the many unknowns.
Most kids with an outstanding application who receive a TWE will have many other great options and some will often successfully reapply the following year.
This is why the Appointment to an SA is such an achievement, it’s extremely competitive!
Don’t be intimidated by the competitiveness, be motivated and dedicated to the process if it’s what you truly want. And always have backup plans…..

I got a QNS letter late in February. I talked with my FFR and she said that the race isn't over until R-day when everything is reset. I'm going to take the SAT one more time but I'm prepared to move on. My advice hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Continue to update your app, good luck!

Thank you, we are very proud of him! We expected that if he lost his slates that he would be competitive off of the NWL. He was placed on the NWL, but two weeks after that he received an official turn down letter in his portal. We saw another candidate turned down from WP the same day who already had an appointment to USNA. He contacted admissions to ask what his downfall was. They stated that he was found fully qualified, but his district was extremely competitive this year. They encouraged him to apply next year. My assumption is that he lost his slates and due to the competition on the NWL, he was too far down on that list as well. I have heard rumors that this is a very competitive class this year, I think that's true.

I am the OP and I agree with your statements. I hope to encourage others to keep pushing because you may think your application is good enough, but it might still fall short.

@Texark147 Follow up with your DS's RC and ask if they would consider him for the AOG/West Point Scholarship. There's a bit of info on the forums about it, or you can go to the WP website to learn more.
