What should I do

To OP, go on your fact finding mission and educate yourself on your high school. What activities/sports are before school, after school, and clubs that meet during lunch? There is some strategy there. My DD's main anchoring activities were swim team (before school), JROTC - even better a class period! and JRTOC PT club team captain after school. Volunteering was the Big Thursdays, after swim team, school, after school, and then PM volunteering. Lunches were for NHS, class officer, and misc. activities - the minor, check-the-box stuff. One thing DD did on her master resume was insert the dates and times. From that, you could see she was busy from 6am to 6pm almost every day, and Thursdays to 9pm, all exclusive of 45 min one way driving to/from her magnet school, and that's not even getting into Stuff on Weekends. We would assume most candidates' schedules mirror this time block.

For some candidates that could be work, watching siblings, and other situations where they cannot participate in traditional activities and sports listed on the candidate application. I once witnessed a 17/18 year old high schooler take the witness stand and explain to the Judge his father's lawnmowing business since his dad did not speak English, and then get grilled by opposing counsel on the financial aspects of the business. I was so impressed he could answer the questions and support his dad. He didn't just translate - he testified! Everyone in the courtroom was quite impressed with that young man.

Hello I am currently in 8th grade. At this point I am set on what I want to do, which is join the United States military specifically the Air Force to be a pilot. A couple months back I was looking into potential commissioning sources into the Air Force. I was going to go with AFROTC until I looked at the USAFA and all of its benefits and what it offers. So at this point my main goal is to get into the USAFA, now I know it is very challenging and since I am going to be a freshmen in a couple of months I really want to lay a strong foundation so that I can get accepted into the USAFA. If you have the time could you please provide me with some tips on what I should in my freshmen year. I plan on playing sports and doing volunteer work, is there anything I should do. If you could give me some advice it would be much appreciated.
Hey dude, welcome to the club. I'm sure you have a lot of the same sort of questions as me, as I also joined at around the same time you did. I'm a freshman now, and I'd be happy to answer your questions if I can. If you check out my profile, you can probably find a lot of my old posts and questions and get some answers there. Otherwise, I'd recommend that you look into signing up for honors courses in high school if you haven't already. During your freshman year, you won't have a lot of advanced courses to take, so start strong with honors. They aren't too difficult. Also, don't take AP Human Geography if it's offered to you. Ginormous scam, all of my friends who are taking it absolutely hate it, and most colleges don't even take credit for it. Always take at least one class that is fun for you, otherwise things are going to be boring and difficult all the time. Start asking yourself questions that will determine what you want to do in HS. What sport(s) are you planning on playing? Are you going to try to get a job? What leadership opportunities are there? Remember, the academies want a Scholar, an Athlete, and a Leader. Plan so that you will check those boxes. Good luck!
