What to wear on R-Day?

This year boots were not issued until several days into BEAST and low quarter were not issued at all, so don't count on using issued uniform items unless you absolutely have to.

WP will give you a list of things you are supposed to report with. It may vary from year to year. There are items NOT on that list that are often “recommended” by current Cadets to bring ie: small fan, extra socks, compression shorts etc…. Just remember you will be carrying everything you bring plus issued items.
FWIW, DS brought broken in boots and Bates low quarters. He was issued boots there as well, but didn’t really like them as much as the ones he brought. They got trashed at BEAST….

Its not really a big deal in what you show up in. You won't be wearing it long. Most show up in shorts, t-shirt, low quarters and your backpack. I'd recommend showing up in your low quarters, shorts and a t-shirt ready to move quickly. It doesn't matter what brand shorts or shirt and or even polo as you mentioned. Show up respectful and ready to go. Say your goodbyes the night before, you wont get much time (60/90 seconds) Review the packing list, don't bring anything that's not on the list. The key take away we took from the experience was that sending only whats on the list, placing items in the clear ziplock bags and having everything fit inside your backpack beside the books. R Day is going to be fast-paced, and you will be shuffled to various stations to get your gear and practice for the afternoon parade.

Actually I would love a USNA soon to be Plebe to show up in that. Would be legendary.
Absolutely would be.

I recall an USNA appointee who showed up with “Momma’s Boy” on his T-shirt. At some point during his journey through Alumni Hall, a Sharpie was employed to presto-changeo it, cross it out to say “Navy Man.”

Back to Army.

I remember back in the day when I went to SLE right after NASS, some people had shown up to SLE in the shorts given at NASS (with the USNA branding on them)…
