When will NAPSters or Foundation kids find out if they got NAPS or foundation?

I received my appointment to USMMA on January 4th but I am still waiting to hear back from USNA. I understand how it works in regards to vacancies with the Senators and MOC's. My BGO pretty much told me that he is very confident that I will get accepted but the worst-case scenario for me is that I would be offered NAPS or a Foundation scholarship. Any idea when I will hear something about the prep schools?

Any time now up into April - same as appointments.

Prep school offers usually start to pick up between now and early April.

Not sure on your specific situation and don’t need to know details, but I would not get over confident. Not sure why a BGO is giving you that idea, but they should not be. Also, it’s not… not an appt so it’s prep. Prep selection is for a very specific reason. Except in very rare situations, prep is because someone is deficient in something, usually academics. If some is 3Q, and is not offered an appt, it’s not NAPS as the next step.

Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade. A USMMA appt is a huge accomplishment, congrats. Nothing wrong with hoping and praying for the best, but always have a backup plan… that is what good military officers do.

So much this!

Thanks a lot. I think he is telling me that because my SAT score is a little low. I have a good GPA, maxed out my CFA, have good leadership roles in sports, etc. Is the low SAT score being a little low reason enough to be offered NAPS or foundation?

what was your score

The best I got on my ACT was a 28 cumulative. My SAT was 1230. Not the best.
Just be open to all possibilities, including no offer at all, which is why you have good alternate plans ready to execute, right?

USNA has to look down the road to USNA Class of 2027, and if they want you in that, then a prep offer of NAPS or Foundation scholarship might be made.

If there is no offer, and you still want USNA as your path to a commission, then you buckle down like so many other re-applicants and go for it again via your alternate, excelling in plebe-like classes, perhaps participating in NROTC and earning a nom from that source.

Nothing you can do about this now, except wait to hear about Class of 2026 decision, tend alternates, finish this year strongly, go PT to bleed off stress.

None of us know this answer as admissions does not publish this information. USNA not only looks at total score, but the breakdown, especially the math. Yes, ACT/SAT scores can make someone unqualified. A 34 in English and a 21 in Math (I have seen it) is going to struggle at USNA in a STEM curriculum. I have seen candidates with scores like that get appointments and I have seen candidates with 1580s get the TWE. It is the whole package. Is your math a 28 and you are in Calc AB getting an A (its rhetorical, no need to answer)? They look at all those factors to make a determination. At the end of the day admissions is looking to admit those who are capable of graduating. So a single ACT alone is not a 100% determining factor in many cases, but looking at the totality of the scholastic book of work is important.

My now 2/c son received his offer of Foundation on Jan 19, 2018. But, that was from Ed Wallace who has since retired. Not sure if that makes a difference as to timing. And, if I had to guess, I would say that it was his not-so-stellar SAT scores that pushed him into Foundation. He was a 4.0 student at his school but his SAT didn't reflect that kind of GPA.
