Where to stay?

Hi everyone! I am looking for best hotel options near WP when The Thayer is booked! Thank you!

There is a Holiday Inn Express in Ft. Montgomery but for R Day we usually stayed at the Hampton Inn at Woodbury Common....because they have breakfast included...and the kids need to eat before they go stand in line & start the longest day of their lives.
We stay at the Thayer for everything else.

I would also look at Airbnb and house rentals, depending on the event and the number of people.

Can someone tell me a little bit about the schedules for R day & A day? I am trying to determine how many days I need to book rooms for.

You have a wider selection of hotels if you venture about 20 minutes north to Newburgh or 30 minutes south to Nanuet/Spring Valley. The hotels in Highland Falls and Fort Montgomery (closest) are frankly way to overpriced except during off peak times. The Hampton in Harriman/Woodbury Commons is also expensive on football game and other high priority West Point weekends. During off peak times that Hampton Inn is a good location. If you live to the south or are coming from the NYC area, I would recommend looking at the hotel options in Nanuet. They are always more reasonably priced and there are a number of restaurants and other necessities in that area. From the north, I would recommend Newburgh.

R-Day will be a blur. Candidates will report in the morning. Parents may get a welcome brief and then you will want to stick around for the parade in the evening. You should plan to depart the area on Tuesday.

You will get to see your cadet after the A-Day parade on that Saturday morning and have all day to spend with them. You will also have most of the day on Sunday, although your cadet may want to get back early on that Sunday to get ready for the beginning of classes.

Great question! I am wondering the same. Not sure if I should stay the night after R Day or before, or both. We are about a 5 1/2 hour drive from WP.

@Shellyeah we are staying Sunday night, will spend the day in the area on Monday to see the evening parade...then we will start our drive back to GA..getting a least a few hours down the road.

Check in the R-Day parade time, I think starts at 1700. You will want to stay for that.
It’s a long day, so maybe drive part way home? But some might want to drive through and get home.

We typically stayed at the WP motel. Not much quality, but we didn’t spend much time there. Being close to the gate for pickup and drop off (especially late night) was convenient, as well as football games. Everything there is indeed overpriced, but location was worth it for us. Thayer is nice because it’s on Post, but also overpriced for what it is. Was nice to stay at Thayer for graduation. Never tried Air bnb, but friends seemed to like them.

I was just there. If you're military, you can stay at the IHG Hotel right outside of WP.
Yes! Absolutely. Depending on your rank there are some other places on post, too like the Beat Navy House...which is booked through IHG.
