Who else is heading to MMI for USCGA self prep?

Hi guys! There is a Snapchat group chat being made for those attending MMI. I will be attending MMI's SAP program for the Coast Guard this fall. I saw others made one last year and figured it would be a good idea for this year too so if you are or your DD/DS is attending MMI and wants to be added to it, feel free to let me know so I can add them

Does anyone know how many students self-prep for USCGA at MMI. Just curious as to what the ratio of appointments are compared to total self-prep students.

I can check for an exact number but I believe my daughter said there were 22 or 24 total this year.

Just watched a video of LTC Bowen at Marion, there were a total of 10 Self Prep students who earned appointments to the Academy. These are self prep (paid own way) not sure of final CGAS numbers.

Is that video on the MMI page? And is that 10 out of how many?

Check out the USCGA website, Admissions section, Requirements... applicants age 17-22 as of July 1 of year entering. The current Director of Admissions, Capt. Freddy, was personally rejected twice before being accepted. If CGA is what an applicant wants, then persistence is important!

Yes. I saw that when we first started a year ago. I guess with everything going on, moving forward means a different paths for us all. Who knows if these schools and universities are even going to start by fall. I wish everyone the best in whatever path they choose!

you are correct my numbers came from the year before my son was the wajtlisted that didn't get in. he was one of the 7 last year,, the 11 from the year before includes 2 kids that got into multiple academies and chose other than uscga.

MMI is awesome. DS joined the SAP late (late November) and only applied to CGA. Planned B was stay another year in MMI and graduate. That’s win2 then transfers to SUNY to finish his under grad. DS earned an appointment with the 9 self prep. There are 22 CGA self prep this year including my DS. They have 2yrs to re-apply and if they like other academy go for it. My DS only like CGA and he did his application 100% by himself. Call MMI now and ask that question? Admission staff is awesome.
