Who just submitted EA today?

Athletes at CGA don’t get the same advantages during the recruiting process that they get at other service academies. They still have to meet all the requirements for admission set by the academy. The coaches have little influence on the admissions process.
I would agree with this. Each coach has a certain # of slots to submit recruits for an LOA (some sports more than others). That list goes to admissions and admissions makes the decision based on all of the other requirements that @sanman mentions in order for admissions to start putting together the puzzle together for that class. That is likely the situation that @Tenacity2 brought up...some "recruited" athletes got put in for an LOA and some actually got it (thus the Insta posts). From my understanding, the lists submitted by the coaches is much larger than actually given out. So, the coaches do have a little influence like @sanman stated.

Yes, They posted on Instagram: “excited to announce that I will be studying and playing next fall for the USCGA. Class of 2025” . I have no idea about the details. DD texted congratulations back to them.
I agree with the other posts that believe these are simply athlete "commitments" and not "admits."

Example: most D1 (which USCGA is not) sports/coaches can't even begin to actually "recruit" a student until 9/1 of their junior year. Yet Twitter and Instagram are full of kids saying "I have committed to ________ for the class of 2032" as 5th graders, etc.

Happens all the time, means next to nothing or nothing at all.

Not sure how you can form an opinion without any facts. I'm sure there have been some kids admitted this cycle - remember, only 10% or so of admitted kids end up on this site. Those kids are as likely to be early admits as they are recruits who haven't submitted an application yet. Most of the athletes are encouraged to apply in EA if they are academically qualified.

Your next paragraph is entirely wrong. When D1 programs can start recruiting is entirely sport dependent. For some sports, its much earlier than 9/1 of junior year - in fact, that's the latest start date I am aware of. But those rules are for Div 1 only. Div2 and Div 3 can start recruiting whenever they want.

Twitter and instagram are not full of 5th graders committing. While there may be some idiot kids who lie about commitments, the vast majority are real, and every kid within that sport knows what's real and what isn't.

Obviously you do not know what you are talking about in the slightest, and apparently also didn't get the joke about 5th graders.

There are far more NCAA athletes in the aggregate playing sports other than football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse and softball as far as deadlines and recruiting rules go (hence "most"), and apparently ANY KID can say he has "committed" somewhere and it can (and many times, does) mean nothing.

Please read up before you post:

The rules about early recruiting are in flux because some sports were making verbal offers quite early (gymnastics, VB and softball were actually getting down into 8th grade) so some restraint was called for. But regardless of the purity of intentions, until an NLI is signed in your senior year either party can walk away from any commitment in D1 or D2 sports. Even a letter offering you a spot can be rescinded by another letter giving it to someone else for any reason. There are various levels of fidelity from sport to sport, coaches leave, kids change their minds so on, so no one has anything until they have signed the letter. There is no letter in D3 because there are no scholarships, no contract, so the word is kind of empty at this level. And of course SAs are completely different beasts altogether.

Agreed, and as I stated I was using D1 as an example.

Yeah - only guided multiple kids through the process - but I'm clueless. You should read the links you posted, because it said exactly what I stated - 9/1 is the latest any sport allows contact, and the rules only apply to D1. Take your attitude and :)

Oh I know. And if my post implied at ALL that the athlete cadets are less qualified academically, that was not my intention. I was an athlete at a D3 school and while the coach wanted me to play (and this was also 100 years ago), it was not the rubber stamp that bigger school athletes got.

Confirming last year active SAFers started getting notified 12/10 with the majority hearing something on the stated release date.
Don't bother processing whether or not announcements are real appointments or not - it has no bearing on when, if, and how you will be notified. There is no way to reconcile the anxiety - but be productive, working on other applications and finishing strong senior year.

Someone should start a thread for Class of 2025!

@Navy09mom I too was an athlete, D1, and it actually WAS a big, red, rubber stamp - in the corner of my application that said ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT along with a return envelope NOT to admissions (god forbid!) but back to the athletic department! haha!!
