Greetings forum,
I can pass hearing tests administered by the military, I've done it before at MEPS but they didn't know that I had sensorineural hearing loss since my recruiter told me, "If you don't need a hearing aid, then you're fine." and did not mark hearing loss on my packet. I was quite open about everything with my recruiter. I passed MEPS this past summer and I couldn't get into DEP simply because of my graduation date.
Now in the present, I am in a 3-year AFROTC program (will have my master's upon completion). I'm just wondering if, upon telling them that I have sensorineural hearing loss in my one ear, they will turn me away without giving me a shot at the hearing test. Regardless of the answers I get on this thread, I will tell the doctor about my sensorineural hearing loss in my one ear. I just want to know what to expect, or if that may even be disqualifying without a chance at a hearing test, or if I may need to contact that audiologist to get cleared on it. I am NOT prior service, I am a former dependent and was diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss in my childhood.
I write this post as a last resort after having asked my cadre and the technical sergeant in charge of organizing our medical appointments. I have also asked around a couple places on the internet, with answers of uncertainty, as well as having done some searching over the past couple of months online. I have looked through this forum for any similar posts as well as the DoDMERB FAQ.
Thank you for your time.
