WP Cadet and his M4 missing

I am sad for the family’s loss. I have said before on a similar occasion, I think they will be surprised how the West Point family will wrap around them in support. I am glad they found him relatively quickly, so the grieving process can begin.
What hurts my heart is if this is a case of suicide, there are so many resources readily available at service academies.

Thoughts and prayers for his family, friends and fellow cadets.

In line with Capt MJ's comments, if this was a suicide, the military, including the service academies, have been trying to bring suicide prevention to the forefront, partly through "resiliency training". In all walks of society, I believe we have a long way to go to be able to quickly identify and assist someone at risk.

In regards to the catalysts for these events, it is very early in the timeline to determine cause and effect for all of us outside the heart of the tragedy.

Remember, family and friends of the victim might use this forum as well.

With all the attention to suicide prevention, the problem, in my opinion, is the negative stigma that is still associated with seeking help. It's a catch 22. Many of the students have valid concerns about seeing a mental health provider due to negative repercussions when they graduate and have to clear medical again, etc Will they be discharged, or if rotc will they be commissioned or not etc. Either way, I do not know the answer. I just pray for his family and any others similarly situated.
