Hi- can someone describe what the first year looks like for an army ROTC student? Time commitment, physical toll, academic component, scheduling classes, time required over the summers? Looking to get a full picture.

Thank you!

Have you tried looking at websites of Army ROTC units? They usually have some good info & sometimes videos to watch. I’m sure you could also schedule or attend an informational session at a college near you. We learned a lot this way.

PT 3 days a week around 0600, military science class twice a week, lab once a week, sometimes weekend training. Freshman year isn't that bad, nobody expects a ton from you. Next years ramp up with how much you should do.

Overall time commitment is sizeable but not unmanageable. Physically, not that bad. You should be hitting the gym on your own time too. Academically, also not very hard. ROTC stuff is very easy to learn and remember. Your summer after freshman year is usually devoid of anything Army.
