2012 USAFA Summer Seminar Students

Another really quick question: When will I be able to alter the date I chose for the Summer Seminar? I applied for USMA's Summer Seminar and got accepted, however, both of West Point's available weeks clash with the dates I chose for the AFA Summer Seminar. While the AFA Seminar is my priority, I do want to try to work it so I can go to both Seminars.

Check your portal as well, not just your email. I never received and email, but mine was updated on the portal over a month ago after about a month of 'under consideration', which was after about 2 weeks of 'not yet processed'.

I'm sorry this won't really answer your question, but for some reason my application never said applicant. Before I got the email that offered me a slot at the summer seminar it only said that my application had not been processed yet.

Thanks, I'm guessing that means the rest of us are on some kind of waiting list.
 
I just recently submitted my application this morning(was waiting on the SAT scores)! I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to how long it generally takes for them to decide on your acceptance?
 
Anyone from the Far West, AK, or HI get accepted yet? I am from Hawaii and don't know anyone personally who has received acceptance e-mails yet. But I did get interviewed by my Liason Officer last week at my school. Is this normal? Did anyone else's L.O come down to their school to interview them? Submitted my app in Late January
 
Trtak3, it's important to check the actual application page and not rely on email completely as I was accepted to the Summer Seminar and have not yet received an email.

Prospekt Of Suburbia,

I am doing the exact same thing. I will be attending Session 1 at West Point and Session C at AFA. I left a week between so I will have time to recoup after West Point, and I'll be at my prime for AFA's. By the way, if we end up going the same weeks, my name is Andrew.

Lucky you for that week in between. I am going to USAFASS Session A and West Point SLS Week 2, there is one overnight in between ;) I am hoping SS will help me practice a bit for the CFA that counts at SLS.

Just applied two days ago to the summer seminar. I really hope that I get accepted! :) I'll keep everybody updated but this thread is great to get to know some people in advance who are going through the same journey.

My name is Fritz and I am a Junior at a small private school in Washington. I play football, basketball, and golf. I love all sciences, astronomy, physics, especially Biology. How to ask questions about SS

I am the OIC of the USAFA Summer Seminar program. If you want to ask a question about your status, e-mail USAFA_Summer_Seminar@USAFA.EDU.

There is a lot of good information on this thread, and also some urban legends.

There is no specific time for a specific individual to hear their status. Summer Seminar is a recruiting program, and we have many goals in how we select. Sometimes it takes a lot longer than others. This could be due to when you applied, where you live, what your GPA is, etc.

The most important thing in your application is the PROFILE section. The grades and test scores are just a threshold. In the Profile section you need to tell us what kind of leader you are (or aspire to be). I know it says "bullet format", but the bullets have no length limit! :) I have seen some go three pages.

We often do not select students who have 4.0 or higher GPAs, dazzling test scores, etc., due to the fact they have no life and no leadership experience. Last year we did not select more than 220 applicants with 4.0's or higher. On the other hand we did select some folks with 3.1's and an impressive record of service and leadership.

We are about to set another record for number of applicants, BTW. The program has grown by about 50% in the last two years. It is actually statistically harder to get into SS than into the academy the next year.

That said, DO NOT interpret not getting into SS as an indication that you won't get into the Academy the next year!!!!!!!! Did I mention that SS is a recruiting program? :) About 80% of the class of '15 did not attend SS.

This letter is for everyone who REALLY aspires to go to USAFA,

On February 23, 2012, I received my letter of Appointment from the United States Air Force Academy. I am writing this not to boast or tell you how awesome your resume has to be to get an acceptance letter. I want to share my experiences with you to encourage you to do your best.

I currently attend John Marshall High School in California.
Ranked 44/676. SAT: 1890 (Writing:640 Math:670 Critical Reading 580)
GPA: 3.61 (reconfigured by USAFA) As you can see my academics are not exactly what you would call "amazing."

I was not in any sports in high school but I did attend martial arts for 4 years. I was also in the Los Angeles Police Department Cadets. I was also the founder of the Chess Club in my high school. Literally, that's all I have.

For those who are playing any varsity sports, I think your chances are WAY better than mine. Whether it is Civil Air Patrol, JROTC, whatever program you have, just keep at it. Try going for positions of leadership or accomplish feats that sets you apart from everyone else.

When you begin your actual application through USAFA, there is something called Form 147 - Air Force Academy Candidate Activities Record. Basically, it asks you to list the extracurricular activities you done from sophomore to senior year. I literally had to leave that part blank because I had nothing. But for you Juniors, it's NOT too late. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!!

Hold on why don't you put what you have done from freshman year to senior year? That means I can't put varsity baseball, varsity wrestling, or vice president of the student body down. Those were my 3 most impressive things I have done all of high school. Thats kind of a bummer. I know the military academy looks at what you did all of high school, but why is the air force different?

What do you mean? Are you a senior?
 
Well Stephen Pawn said that when you fill out form 147, it only asks for activites from sophmore to senior year. No i'm a junior, but I have my best accomplishments freshman year. Sophmore year I transferred, got injured and could only do baseball, and this year I'm only concentrating on sports. So basically the only thing I done to be proud of since freshman year is qualify for wrestling states. Not putting down what I did freshman year will hurt me.
