2020 Appointments

Dad2020, last year DS received another BFE after he got his appointment certificate. The packet contained lots of paperwork he had to complete (background, uniform measurements, immunization record) and send back as well as docs he needed to bring on I Day. I suspect your DS will receive a similar packet. I recall the same BFE docs were on-line. Congratulations!

Alright. Thank you. I wondered if that might be the case. Do we need to get a set of dental X-rays from his dentist as well? I knew we needed an immunization record eventually but I didn't know if that went up on I-Day. Also, I work with a guy who says he accepted an appointment to AWP and on I-Day they told him to leave because of something wrong with his feet. He said there was something in his stride they didn't like. I also heard takes of rare blood disorders etc booting people on I-Day. Wouldn't we know about that before we get there? My DS has been a blood donor from the day he was eligible and has a physical every year for sports and scouts. Just curious if these are urban legends and my coworkers appointment is a tall tale.

Dad2020, not sure about the dental x-Rays, my DS was not required to provide them. I believe candidates must bring a copy of their immunization record on I Day - the instructions are in the BFE, it's quite thorough. DS contacted Admissions whenever he had questions about completing the various forms, and they were helpful. No worries, enjoy the ride, it will all come together.

He should be fine on I Day. If he doesn't get he shots ahead of time and the paperwork sent in they will give him the shots again. It's why everyone says to bring your own Duplicate copy of all paperwork. The only folks I have seen turned away from I Day was a kid in a cast (and they spent hours evaluating him) and a kid who had alcohol in his system and it showed on his breathalyzer. They also draw blood on I Day and check color blind. They will do a quick cursory look at the medical records and some kids will get a quick look over by a Brigade Doc. He should be totally fine, most are urban legends. Trust me, they don't want to have spent all that time and energy on a kid and then turn them away.

So I received a LOA about a month ago with the only condition attached being to obtain a nomination. My portal updated a week ago with a Senatorial nomination but my application status hasn't changed from "Conditional Offer of Appointment LOA". How long until either the status changes or a BFE is sent if it isn't meant to change?

Don't worry. It takes about 10 days to two weeks to make its way onto the portal, and then another 10 to get the BFE. Roughly

Congratulations!! Do you mean after your portal was updated to Offer of Appointment?
My portal was updated to appointment on 18 Dec, and my BFE came on 30 Dec. The envelope said they sent it on the 21st, but since it was christmastime, the mail was slow.

It's official! I have been waiting since freshman year for this moment and I am ecstatic! Honestly, I would have never expected to get an LOA. Heck, I was almost convinced that I'd barely make it for NAPS. It's almost like it was meant to be.... Anyways, I'm already looking forward to grind with you all this summer!

Didn't realize I posted before. Just posted because I received my letter today. Whoops!

Congratulations.
There is a saying in the Navy, and I suspect other services: "Errors of commission are almost always better than errors of omission."
Better to over-post good news than fail to share.

Hello, my son received Principal nom from MOC then a letter of LOA (needed one document) we submitted that and cleared. My father in law told all his friends DS will be going to USNA, I am nervous because he didn't get appointment?? I know you should not say anything until BFE comes???

Congrats to you!! We are in your position, with DS principal nom and LOA we are waiting both ecstatic and nervous at same time, is appointment guaranteed?? Been reading it's not for USNA cuz some rule???

What do you mean it isn't guaranteed? I thought as long as you met the requirements, that the LOA guaranteed you an offer of
Appointment.

If you look at the USNA Admissions page, it notes the LOA indicates an "intent" to offer an appointment if requirements are met and everything remains good (my parsing). I couldn't find the term "guaranteed" on a quick review.

Several MOC FAQ websites also note the LOA is conditional in nature. It's splitting hairs, but until the fat lady sings while handing you the actual appointment, IMHO, it ain't over. I must be having a Yogi Berra moment tonight as I read that tortured sentence.

It is no doubt phrased that way to protect USNA and allow it some flexibility to adjust the class as it needs to. In general, LOA + nom + 3q + nothing going downhill, indicates a very high correlation with appointment.

Do all nominating sources give a principle nom, and if so, do they all notify the applicant that they are the principle?

Okay... hearing/seeing this stresses me out... I haven't gotten an appointment yet but I have a nomination.

Our MOC called himself directly telling my son he picked him as principal nom, the next day he got LOA? Now we are just waiting???
