My DS received a letter today from USNA acknowledging that he had applied for a Vice Presidential Nomination, and that he needed to insure that his file was complete by March 1. I assume this is just sent to all applicants who applied for the VP nomination.

My question is, how does DS know if USNA has 3Q'ed him? Does the Naval Academy send notice like West Point does? He did receive notice from DODMERB that he has been medically qualified for USNA but unlike USMA, he has received nothing from the USNA that indicates he has been "qualified." Can one of the BGO's or other candidates shed some light on this?

Per the portal, it appears that his file is complete as everything has dates filled in, including a date reflecting his 7th semester transcript and the date for his CFA. He did recently ask his school counselor to send a note to validate a couple of additional changes to his Candidate Record (date on file is from Aug 31) including a Varsity Letter earned in Cross Country and the fact that he is the Student Representative to the School Board this year. That date does not show an update and I suggested he contact both admissions and his counselor, and have her just send an email due to the close timing.

Thanks for any input. The knowledge I have gained here has been tremendous. Wish I had found this forum a year ago.

If I'm wrong on any of this, then anyone who knows better, please correct me.

The above is correct. To my knowledge, USNA does not formally notify candidates if they are scholastically qualified/triple Q'ed.

I'm a reapplicant who's had two different experiences: Last year my BGO notified me of my triple-qualification and later USNA sent the 3Q letter. This year, the BGO wasn't able to access scholastic qualification. I emailed the RD who responded with a yes (though I haven't received a letter.)

    Info on RD?

I've seen reference to a candidate's RD (Regional Director?) before... but the CIS only lists the Admissions Counselor and the Blue & Gold Officer. Where do you find out who your RD is? Again, thanks for any info you can pass along. :thumb:

When I took my DS to one of the Naval Academy forums held close to our home, we were given the name of his regional counselor by the admissions officer that was present at the forum. I think the regional counselor and the admissions counselor listed on the profile is one in the same, at least it was for my DS.

Thanks, Proudmom! I had wondered about that - but the whole director/counselor thing made me doubt it. Does anyone else know for sure - are the RD and the Admissions Councelor one and the same person?

I received my Appointment a week ago, and never received a letter saying I was 3Q'ed. I did get a conditional offer of appointment. I believe that these are the only way USNA informs prospective candidates that they are likely to get an appointment before they actually send the appointment.

At this point, just double check that everything has been completed, and stalk your mailbox.

Regional Directors are normally a more experienced Admissions Counselor and are overall in charge of one of four regions. Each region is split between two officers and they divide the states within the region. So, for your purposes, contact the Admissions Officer that is listed on CIS, whether they are the RD or AC.
