Accepted!-SLS

:bang:

you really are new to the forums.....

Remember, your SLS cadre could be lurking! Just reel it in a little bit Bill. I know you're excited about all things West Point-- I was in your shoes last year. SLS is a great experience. You'll have fun at it this summer.

I did see an Admissions Officer hanging around here. Don't worry mate, I know how these forums are frequented. I was just hoping to get some competition going on.

BTW I was talking to an accepted class of 2015 cadet earlier today. He went to SLS last summer, perhaps you two met... Which week did you attend?

Still haven't received a letter finding out if I've been accepted or not..anybody else still waiting on a letter or just recently been accepted?

When did you apply? I've seen people whose acceptance letter only came after about a month after they applied. That is probably an issue concerning the mail system. That would be my guess. I got my SLS letter a couple of weeks after my application (so did many others). My guess that is an issue with the national mail system because, well, it only took 2 weeks for my letter to reach me (when compared with the date printed on the letter), and I am residing in Brazil. Just don't worry.

Hi debcst. I have the same concern as what you had (and FlyBoy1993). My son got accepted to SLS just before Christmas and right away sent in his medical forms and money order and all that. We just realized over this weekend that we had not gotten any confirmation that his package was received, nor any confirmation that he got his desired session, etc.

He is planning to call admissions first thing Monday, but I'm wondering if there are any others here on the Forums who did not get a package confirming SLS session choice? His candidate page on the USMA site has nothing related to his SLS status, positive or negative.

Thanks all for any clarification. My fear is that things got lost and he is now in danger not being able to recover. :frown:

we finally received everything in the mail.

went to a local "liaison" workshop tonight that was excellent, as far as lots of Q&A and first hand experience with the process. Prior service officers and Congressman's aide were present.

If you have the opportunity to go, i would highly recommend it.

How did you guys get notified that you were accepted/denied?

Was it through email? Or did you get something in the mail?

You guys know which Seminar will you be attending?

I am not sure right now, but probably a Leadership one (but, based on the description that they use Kouzes and Posner's "Leadership Challenge", I decided not to attend it as my first choice, as I have already used that book at another leadership course at Phillips Exeter Academy) or Law practice, which I am very interested. Perhaps the Model "Congress" will be nice.

Any thoughts?

I received my acceptance letter about two weeks ago. I have a 3.2 GPA but am very good with athletics. I am a runner and run cross country and the 1600m in track. I have ran a 15:43 5k (cross country) and a 4:26 mile. Also, my twin brother and I play soccer. My brother led our team in assists his freshman and sophmore year and was the leading scorer his junior year. I was leading scorer freshman and sophmore year and set the school assist record my junior year. I am going to be going to the second week. Can't wait!

4:26 mile.

Wow! Any tips on improving cardiovascular resistance? I am pretty much locked at 6:40 atm. I think I can make in 6:20, but any tips on improving speed?

I have read the best drills to do to increase speed is to slowly jog for a bit, sprint for, say, 30 meters, slowly jog/walk for 30 meters, repeat...

If you want to get into the 5 min range then just get to the point where you can run 3-4 miles easily. Than do like 200-400 meter repeats. That would get you the speed for the mile. What you were doing is more for the 100 or maybe the 200. You have to have a little bit of endurance before the sprints. Hopefully this helps.

didn't cadets crack down on the people who had joined those groups when they arrived to SLS?

I would join it after SLS, but not before :thumb:
