AF ROTC Enrollment Allocation Results

Our colonel said only 1700 cadets made the cut this year. He said those who weren't selected still have a chance because they're waiting for more.

This is what DS was told. Unfortunately, he did not make it and is on the "wait list." He is supposed to find out within two weeks. So, the wait continues for us.

Gemstate,

Are they going to keep him moving forward JIC. It would seem difficult to get the bag drag and the physical together 2 weeks from now, when schools would be starting up finals. Or is your DS's school a late ending college...i.e ends mid-late May?

I do wonder if the cancellation of ICSP scholarships awarded this past month is how they got the numbers back up. Here's the link

Pima, He didn't say. As you can imagine, DS is not real talkative at this point. His school does end early (finals week is May 6) so not sure how that would work.

I know that feeling, where they shut down, and as a parent it is hard to give them the space, because all you want to do is to make it better.

AFROTC always has had an alternate list for SFT, so the plan is in place and they can get it done.

Let him lick his wounds. The det will keep him informed. The good news is they didn't say it is over.

This is the hardest part, or so you think.

Trust me, when he is up for his AFSC board, this board will seem like AFROTC scholarship.

When he goes AD, attending his AFSC school, the fear remains. For a fliers, it is 2 yrs of fear.

When he is an O3, and up for what I call full commissioning...now ADAF, not tied to ADAF ROTC, fear will be there.

When he is an O3 for an O4 board, fear will be there.

O4 for O5 same thing.

It is constant fear regarding boards over and over again.

Each board is a higher risk regarding their future,

It gives you no security, that I get, but this is also why I say believe in fate. You will go insane when he gets a rated slot, and has to go to WPAFB for a 3 day physical. More so when they go to IFS. Much more when they are at UPT. Than when they are up for O4, ripe old age of 33, and they can be kicked out with a wife and a couple of kids, it is the worst.

This is what the AF future holds. Hate to say it, but this is going to be part of your life as a parent for at least 15 yrs.

If the cut is at 1700 ATM, why would they wait on the additional 500 slots? All Dets were told about the 2245 number.

I don't think anyone knows for sure whether there will or will not be anymore slots awarded.

So are you saying that they only awarded 1700 slots as of right now? Our commander said that 2245 were already awarded. I'd be surprised if they added another 500 on top of that number.

We were told that there have only been 1700 slots awarded and they are trying to add more later on, but I doubt that however many they add later will sum up to 500. The 2245 number might have been the original plan. He said it took so long because AFROTC, AFA, and OTS had to do an emergency money shuffle and that, believe it or not, AFROTC came out pretty good comparatively.

My apologies if I missed this in a prior thread or post, but I'm curious: does anyone know what percentage of cadets did receive an EA? I thought I saw 55% on an earlier post.....if that is correct, what was it in other years? Thanks in advance.

55% was yrs ago, back when every det put up every cadet, lately many dets have seen their 200's drop considerably between the start of the 200 yr and Dec.

This yr the numbers have been all over the place. Some cadets have said that it was 91% which would parallel last yrs number, just a little lower. However, some say only 1700 have been actually given a slot and 545 more are on the waiting list. If that is the case, than the number would drop to @65%.

I don't know which is true, because many posters have been posting that their dets were either 100% or very close, which supports the 90%+, but if they are including the alt. list cadets, than that brings the true number to @ 65% at this time. It could go up or stay the same.

Pima, you had asked earlier about DS who is on "waiting list." They are keeping him on track with everyone else who is going, JIC.

I am like Pima about how many EA's were given out. The number has been all over the place. I have heard of several kids on a waiting list. I'm not really sure if anymore EA's will be given out or if the max number has ready been given out.

I have seen many posts saying that there is alt. list, and if that is the case I am going to go with those that are on the list, and say 1700 got it.

545 are waiting. I have a feeling it is how the cadre is operating that makes cadets/posters feel that it is at the 90+% rate. I.E. Gem's DS is on the list, but are moving forward with the alternates under the assumption they all will go in the end.

I really feel for those on the waitlist, with everyday their summer plans are being impacted...i.e. registering for summer classes, getting a job or internship, family vacations, etc.

This has got to be incredibly hard on them living in limbo.

Pima, you are correct. I couldn't agree with you more. I feel so awful for those on the list. I know someone personally and they are absolutely devastated and just don't know what to do. I think everything is so up in the air. Maybe they will all find out soon about the waiting/alternate list.

If it helps, I never heard anything about the 1700. I only heard about the 2245 and the 91.4% acceptance. Anything else I simply did not hear of. I know they always have a wait/alternate list. There is one in our Det that is sticking around in hopes to take advantage of it, but the other 12 of us got EAs.

I know that this was addressed in an earlier post, but I just want to be sure that I understand this particular point: for EA selection, the process is "scholarship blind". Is that correct? I read this on a post on one of these threads re: AFROTC EA and SFT. Can anyone confirm?

Yes it is blind. There are no points awarded for being on scholarship....HOWEVER, let's be honest the CoC rec is 50%, thus it is not totally blind.

So Det ranking is factored in ICSP scholarship selection?

I heard otherwise

vamom asked about EA not ICSP. Two different things.
