AROTC January Board Acceptance

My parents have no idea the decision could come any day now. Hopefully I will be able to make an announcement at dinner sometime soon and say "thanks for the help mom and dad, but my college tuition is on me". Becoming an Officer in the Army is what I want to do, therefore I check my ROTC status page daily and harass the mailman for a decision from West Point. Best of luck to everyone!

Did you write his statement on why he wanted to be in ROTC?!

his application was submitted/completed past the due date but he had a partial application that was pending way back. And no statements were ever submitted not like his applicaton to the Coast Guard Academy. I think he submitted his statement during or after his PMS interview. His application process is weird because he was late.

Parents check more often! My son didn't mention it at all or talk about it once all paperwork was finished. When he received each scholarship he either said "Cool" or "Told ya not to worry."

His calm demeanor kind of drives me crazy.

This sounds a lot like our son. We haven't heard (yet) on the AROTC scholarship, but our son keeps saying, "Don't worry. I'm getting it."

He did all of his paperwork/computer application, and wore a suit to his interview at SDSU (his choice - we told him to just wear nice casual clothes).

He & I both check the Cadet Scholarship Application Status page, but he e-mails the ROTC Battalions at his schools of choice every couple of weeks.

Since our son chose a language major (Russian), after reading more from this wonderful forum, I'm thinking he's considered a level 3 Tier and maybe that's why we haven't heard anything yet from the Boards. At least he's already been accepted to 3/4 of his schools, so if we DO get the great news, we won't have to wait to find out about acceptances!

GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE!!!

SDSU! Graduated from there on 1987! Wish my son would apply there, but he had no interest.

Hey, is the DODMERB site down??
Maybe that is a good sign, heck who knows!!!

That's great! A lot of our friends graduated from there around that time, plus our son has friends who go there. Are you still in the San Diego area?

Whether or not he gets the scholarship, he'll either go to SDSU (if he's accepted) or CSU San Marcos, because we can afford to help him with those schools, and he would re-apply for the 3 yr ROTC scholarship.

But, our son would LOVE to go to UofA Tucson. Hopefully he can!

Not to burst your bubble, but I don't think AROTC has tiers. I believe that is NROTC.

After seeing the DoDMERB site down, I checked the AROTC site. Nothing has changed. Hopefully by the end of week. It could be a great weekend

Mel: we're in Texas now. After having one son in AROTC and a R&B scholarship, it felt kinda nice not paying for college...especially out of state. Son#2 is waiting for his vast list of colleges to get back to him (different ones for AROTC, AFROTC and NROTC and different majors) so he can make a decision.

I was told by CC it would be Monday at the earliest. We could have another long weekend of anticipation.

Hopeful Parent

Thanks for the heads up, Ranger 6. We are in CA. Our son, Chris, has applied to:

1) U of A Tucson (1st choice) - accepted already
2) ASU Tempe (3rd choice) - accepted already
3) Cal State Univ. San Marcos (2nd choice) - accepted already
4) San Diego State Univ ("second" 1st choice) - waiting to hear if accepted

Chris would like to go to either UofA Tucson or SDSU because of their Russian programs. He's always been a history whiz, esp. military history, and has zeroed in on Cold War history the past year or so. Ever since he was little, he ALWAYS played war, and then lots of computer strategy games. I don't know how many hours of Risk we played over the years, too, lol. We visited West Point back in July 2000 and spent a lot of time in the military museum there. Chris was in hog heaven! He used to talk about applying to WP, but a few years ago decided to go the ROTC route. He did 2 yrs (9th/10th Grades) in NJROTC at his high school, and then dropped it last year so he could take another AP class.

So, he's got the grades and SAT scores...now it's just a matter of if he's what the Army is looking for. He had his application done early and his PMS interview last July. He had to have his college applications done before the end of Nov. for some reason, so at least *everything* is done as much as we can do at this point. I've posted separately that if he doesn't make the 4 yr scholarship cut, then at least he can go to our local school, and then re-apply for the 3 yr scholarship.

Again, good luck to all students (and parents) who are waiting to hear!

Quick update---check status page--my son's message just changed to " You may check your medical qualification status by visiting the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board DoDMERB WebSite" .

Good luck to all of us.
