The PMS from my #1 choice stated that the board was December 4th. Does anyone know when these results will be sent out?
The Dec board results will not likely not be released until January. Typically it takes 4-6 weeks for the notification. The October board just sent out notifications the last few weeks, so you can see it still is a waiting period in that time frame.
The list is determined when the board meets, it is just that the results take time to coordinate and release.
I can't recall, but I believe that candidates have until May to accept or decline, thus, if a candidate meets the Oct board and is offered a scholarship, but meanwhile uses this as plan B, they will not be accepting or declining until they know if they got into an SA, which might not happen until mid-late March.
The list is determined when the board meets, it is just that the results take time to coordinate and release. It is the same way for officer promotions, the board meets for a 3 day time frame, however, the results are not announced for @ 6 weeks. Meanwhile a lower ranking board will continue to meet. The way the promotion system works is mandated. There must be a certain percentage of Flag to Field to Company. You can't promote a captain to major if the majors aren't promoted to Lt Col or retire. This is why it can take months to actually pin on to the next rank, exception is 1st lt and capt.
Two yrs ago when DS went up for a scholarship, they had the same lag time, it did not stop them from also having the monthly boards. The same would be true for the SA's the boards meet weekly, the results are released quickly, however, they are not waiting for the acceptances from the previous board to offer an apptmt at the next board. I can't recall, but I believe that candidates have until May to accept or decline, thus, if a candidate meets the Oct board and is offered a scholarship, but meanwhile uses this as plan B, they will not be accepting or declining until they know if they got into an SA, which might not happen until mid-late March. Again, under your theory the boards really should not review any candidates that are applying for ROTC and an SA until the SA announces their apptmts, because the boards would be held up not knowing if that candidate is going to accept an appt or a scholarship.
Finally boards are set dates because it is a committee that does it, the officers reviewing the applications have other jobs besides sitting on a board. For this reason, they need to keep it moving because if they have to move around dates then there maybe problems with date conflictions for committee members.
I Spoke to My son's PMS from his 1st choice on Dec 4th and he stated that his package should have went to the board that day. He told me all you can do is keep your fingers crossed now. I have not heard anything else since then. Waiting patiently, (He was accepted to his 1st choice back on November 4th)
Goaliedad: How does your theory work with the "lower" tiered colleges that almost no SA applicant would consider? Seems to me if you were correct then we would be hearing about SOME people (those applying to the less attractive battalions) getting AROTC scholarships while the more competitive battalions were playing this "Gee I don't know and don't want to guess wrong so let me check back AGAIN with CC and ask for some more information".
My personal opinion is that AROTC CC cannot find their collective butts with both hands. This is just an example of both the local battalions and CC being unable to decide how they want to handle the fewer available scholarships and engaged in the process of CYOA....so that selecting incorrectly doesn't reflect badly on them. Of course this is just MY opinion.....
I'm also going crazy. Son did not get into 1st choice school...but have other great choices and leaves open possibility of USNA.
Has anyone else been receiving phone calls from rotc battalions on the college list?
Son has been in contact with 2 on the list, so they know he has applied and interested, but in the last week, two other schools on the list called to see if his application was done and if he had any questions? hmmmmmm.
