boots!?!?

Just got my khyber mountain hybrids. $95 from Boots-USA.com
They run about 1.5 sizes smaller than a running shoe. I'm a fifteen in nikes and asics and the 13s fit great. They are almost as flexible as the Nike sfb, but they are much more supportive

My DD went with the Khyber too and L.O.V.E.S. them! Very supportive. We initially bought a 6W at Ft. Sam. Thoes were too wide and they didn't have any additional sizes. I called the cadet store at WP and we had a 6R in 2 days and they fit like a glove. And yes, they are similar in flexibility as the Nike boot.

Ready to start breaking them in!! :yay:

I went last week to Fort Sam to see if they had all 3 kinds in the boot letter. They said they didn't have any Khybers (you must have gotten some of the last ones! :) ), and they only had Belleville 390s, not 310s. Fort Sam did not have the correct low quarters, because they weren't made of leather, so we went down to Lackland and got them. Lackland and Randolph didn't have any of the 3 allowed boots, though. So It looks like I'll be getting the Bates from Fort Sam...It's the only choice if I want to be able to try on the boots before I purchase them.

I too have gotten the Khyber Mountain Hybrids. I normally wear a size 13 shoe, but I went with a pair of size 11.5. They're fairly comfortable, though I've not done much walking in them. My only complaint so far is that they take a long time to lace up; much longer than my pair of the "old" style black jungle boots. No speedlaces here. I guess I have three months to practice!

My DS tried on the Belleville 310 and the person fitting him stated that the boot was too wide and that he needed a more narrow boot. The size was right on. The boot was regular width and it doesn't appear available in a narrow width. I'm wondering if the Kyber Mountains run more narrow than the 310s. Any thoughts on the most narrow width boot?

Mine fit just like a regular tennis shoe (regular width for both)

I recently called the closest AAFES (at Fort Lewis) to see if they had the shoes I need in stock. They said they only carry the Bates boots, not the Khybers or the Bellevilles. I'm planning on heading up there to get sized and try the Bates boots on, but from what I've read on here and from other online reviews, people seem to like the other two boot options better. Ideally, I would want to try all three on, but if anyone has other input on if the other boot types are superior to the Bates, I would really appreciate it. I know I can order the other types of boots online, but I am afraid that I would then run the risk of them not being the right size. Thanks for any input!

Bought the Bates

My DS bought the Bates :shake::thumb:. The local base AAFES ordered the Bates and Belleville 310 in for us. The latter are skinnier around the ankle and the material is more canvas like. The Bates appear to be the stiffest around the ankle, yet still light. Thought that was important to avoid rolling the ankle on a hike and spraining it. The Khyber's seem to be in between. The only place to get the Khyber boots are from the Cadet Store at WP to my knowledge. If you reread the letter, it says so. They will ship. I had ordered them for DS and they were waiting for restock (gotta call when they are open in their time zone) but we tried the Bates and figured it didn't get better than this so why wait.

Went today to try and get my footwear. Unfortunately the PX I went to didn't have any of the permissible boots though I was able to try on a pair of Belleville's for size so hopefully they can order a pair in so I can start breaking them in ASAP. We were really surprised (and thankful!) to see they had one pair of the leather low quarters in exactly my size! :thumb:
Now just gotta get those boots!

I got the Bates and really like them. I feel like they give me more support than the Bellevilles I tried on.

Finally got my boots after a bit (read as a lot) of running around to get them. I got the 310's and am pleased with them although they did run a bit large for sizing so I ended up in a smaller size. I think I'm going to end up putting gel insoles in them though as my dad's recommended it and its what he has done with his boots throughout his career to add more padding to the insole.

I have been relentlessly looking for boots, and am having a hard time but just had a quick question - do we get steel toe or soft toe boots? I am almost positive it doesn't specify on the boot letter, because I've read that thing about 20 times :)

Thanks for any input!

The letter specifies the three only authorized boots for cbt. They are the tactical research khyber mountain hybrids, bates m8, or Belleville 310. Only those boots are authorized

kjang0613,

A good fit is significant. Or at least if you can get the proper fit done there, you could order online from a variety of sources. My understanding (not that I have been a cadet) is that you would not want steel toes for BCT.

If they are out of any of these 3 styles at Ft. Lewis, have you asked them if they could order the item for you in your size and style?

My daughter and I drove to our nearest Army base today and she was fitted for Bates boots but they did not have them in her size (6 Reg). We returned home and looked at the Bates online store and they did not have that size there either. We are thinking the next step is to contact the AAFES catalog using the phone number in the boot letter, any thoughts?

I think I'm going to go for the Khyber boots. My only problem is were to buy them?? The closest base is McDill, and that's a solid 2.5hr drive.

I don't mind ordering them online or by phone, I just want to make sure that it fits properly. How would I get the boots from the Cadet Store in the right size?

Another poster suggested boots-usa.com, which is where I ordered mine from. They have free shipping, and a 1 year return policy with free return shipping. I wear size 13 running shoes, so I ordered a pair of size 11.5 and a pair size of size 12. I'm keeping the 11.5s, and sending back the 12s.

2.5 hours is not that far IMO. I drove to West Point in 2.5 miles to buy my boots. They don't carry the Khyber boots at West Point btw, so if you're looking to try boots on, don't buy them online/phone.

Any suggestions on sites where I can purchase the low quarters online? I've been sized but I want to make sure I get the authorized shoe. Thanks!

You can actually buy them on eBay- I found a store for $37.00. Just do a search.
