C/O '26 parents - place to commiserate and share. Roller coaster for the next 3 years!

My son fell into a very charmed life.

His high school class had excellent students. Two are doing graduate work at MIT and Stanford in mechanical and nuclear engineering. Two others got undergrad degrees in aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering and work for Lockheed.

The ones working for Lockheed are paid extremely well compared to my son. But.

After graduation, my son drove across the nation and stopped at many great places. He fell in love with California (deeply upsetting to me) and spends his weekends hiking and camping at spectacular locations.

He called up and said he is looking to plan a trip to Rome for a week to explore before he reports at his resort in the Caribbean for two years.

In college he went to Italy, Germany, Austria, New Orleans, NYC (for a month), all over florida.

He is trying to decide whether he wants to go to Spain, Italy, Greece, Hawaii after the Caribbean.

And he has a fair share of disposable income every month living like this.

And it works well with texting and FaceTime. Technology certainly has made being apart more palatable.

Nice visit with the dude yesterday. Parked on the Yard and went to an Asian place on Main Street for lunch with his two younger bros and the wife. All was good,

But he checked his Physics test score from the 6-weeks. Bombed it. Not supposed to be dropping bombs until after he graduates!! That was not so good ...... think the professor drops the lowest test, which he said he would definitely appreciate!! :p

My story to him was that I got my first while stationed in Germany (1991 Ninja 600R) when I was 19 and crashed it in a month, basically totaling it and breaking my ankle. There's a reason the military is against letting young kids have machines that are faster than most super cars! Too many horror stories.

I'm definitely not encouraging him, and told him to wait a while after graduation. But, it is hard to not look like a hypocrite. :p

... so this is a reactive response after reading that post in this forum about winning five football games so far this season and last week's Coach Saban's (Alabama) fiery moments.
I watched several games of that other school by the Rocky Mountain High -- the triple option works. Alabama was on the verge of collapse by the 2nd quarter when Coach Saban initiated the old-fashioned butt chewing directed at his offensive coordinator, defensive and offensive players. On the videos, I could read every fourth word from Coach Saban was a profanity. During the post game conference, he claimed that his wife, known as Miss Terry, gave him a direct order to get on his players who are not performing. With Navy football, I watched the pregame and post game interviews and the coaches looked confident and just too nice. I got it that they always commented on "outstanding young men." The Brigade is full of outstanding young women and men. Maybe it's time for a fiery, ballistic, serious a$$ chewing on the non performers. The players too are quick to say "we got to do better" or "my fault" or "my bag." After a bad performance, the players should be looking for a place to hide away from coaches.
Last home game, I was 30 feet during the warm ups. I watched a group who are fearless, smart, and confident. True this is only a football game, but it could also be in the middle of the South China Sea two years from now. I'm 100% sure they will be victorious. Maybe it's time to add a twist in Navy football: have the coaches' wives authorize their husbands to conduct a classic butt chewing like Ms Terry did in Alabama.

We have such a gross disadvantage with good d1 programs. Our lines are too small. We have to run that same 3 runs and a punt hoping for field positions offense.

If the qb does a three step drop he will be sacked. ;)

Also - they are great, nice guys looking to serve their country. They get beat down enough outside of football.

... concur.
Last game, I was seating about 30 feet from the team warming up. My impressions were like you want this group on your side during a firefight. The former coach mentioned about the two other Service Academies allowing 5th year seniors to play. One full year, extra one, have a major impact. I mentioned about DS who looked like a middleweight UFC fighter after Plebe year; now he looked like the Terminator... "Hasta la vista, baby." With all the fine dining at the Academies, a 5th year senior can really bulk up. Perhaps the Athletic Director and/or the new Superintendent can change the regs to allow 5th year seniors to play.

I disagree about 5th year …

But I laughed. My son went in as a thin kid (he maxed the CFA except basketball throw and shuttle run). I told my brother right after graduation he looks like a middleweight UFC fighter. He was on endurance team and got into weight lifting. He has bulked up a little since - he still runs and lifts daily. He is taking Stew Smith’s course for buds training - looking at dive school.

That would be a SECNAV level decision. Also, with the current manpower needs, I can't see a reason why the SECNAV would allow mids to play a 5th year. They would also need to be enrolled as a student at USNA to play a fifth year. USNA only awards BS degrees. Also, as much as I loved USNA, four years as a mid was definitely enough.

...Roger.

... so the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy belongs to the other Service Academies with 5th year seniors.

Not historically. Covid rules for some are a blip. Just a blip. I have faith. My grandfather suited up for the practice football squad as a Midshipmen. I grew up knowing not to be disruptive during Navy televised or radio broadcast games.
My dad and his cousin both marched on for their years.
I will always be reverential for the singing of Blue and Gold, regardless of the order in which it is sung. Built in to my DNA.

The first time I watched a game where our son marched on did me in. I was a bawling mess. Then the Covid West Point game, the pictures from DS. Incredible.

Navy has and will be competitive again for the CIC trophy. I have faith.

The vast majority of alumni, some of whom are in decision level positions do not agree with you about this.
There have been instances in the past with season ending injuries where a player COULD have been sent
home on "medical leave" so that the academy could "have" him for another season but it was not done.

Although I have not heard Supe Davids on this issue, I don't expect this new (four year varsity athlete at USNA)
supe to change course on this.

... so I don't understand why a vast majority of alumni in decision level positions and the new Superintendent (according to you) can accept a losing season year after year after year.
According to the former coach (fired after the Army - Navy game), it's not a level playing field when you have 5th year seniors on other service Academies. In all fairness, my DS '26 would rather stay in Bancroft doing homework rather than go to home games. He is tired of watching and losing.
