C/O '26 parents - place to commiserate and share. Roller coaster for the next 3 years!

Kid said there is an ASTB class/test prep they offer at the Academy, and there is a Google drive site with a lot of study resources for them. So, he took it blind and did okay. With a bit of utilization of the resources, hopefully will do better!

We were at the game and the USAFA players were much bigger, especially, on the line of both sides. Here is why:

The USAFA did change rules for football recruits in 2019 that made it easier for bigger players to meet the Academy's physical fitness requirements.

Specifically, the Academy dropped the sit-up test from its Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and modified the pull-up test. Cadets who weigh more than 210 pounds are now only required to do one pull-up, while lighter cadets must do more.

The Academy also changed the way it calculates body mass index (BMI) for cadets. Cadets who are taller than 6 feet 2 inches are now allowed to have a higher BMI than shorter cadets.

These changes were made in response to concerns that the Academy's previous PFT requirements were too difficult for bigger players to meet.

Navy needs to follow this.

Army shouldn’t.

I thought their lines were the biggest Navy has seen other than ND. #84 TE was huge 6'6" 255, Center looked massive so I looked up, he seemed bigger than 300lbs

For anyone who thinks that Navy football loses year after year, in the previous 19 seasons, not counting 2023, they have had 14 winning seasons. There are a lot of programs that would like that.

Navy does. Certain Football players do not have to meet height and weight standards. These same designated players also take a modified PT test, that has a bike portion instead of run. The caveat, is they must be within standards and pass the standard PRT before they graduate. For those guys in the 285+ range they transform themselves that spring semester. Many work so hard to keep the weight on, it’s not hard to lose it. They also have training and other staff who do all this is a monitored way. They aren’t just tossed out there on their own. Those who select Marine Corps even have further conditioning that must be done.

Kid interviewed for travel abroad this morning. Said it was a good conversation and he likes the prospects. Looking at Fall semester of 2/C year as the option. Available locations depend of the classes offered that translate over to your major. He's a Math major, so there should be a fair number of choices.

It's so cool that the Academy offers that as an option. Best of luck to all the kids looking to take advantage of the possibility!

... so I spoke to him last semester about French Naval Academy. He was very interested in applying. Currently he is more focused on GPA (3.4). I'm sure it will change again. On another note, he already told us that he is going to Florida with his friends for spring break. And hoping and praying for 2/C cruise in Pearl Harbor, Havaii.

Good stuff! Great grades working there.

My kid also wants to do a trip abroad as one of his summer blocks over the coming summer.

Not sure how his GF is liking his ideas of galavanting all over the world! 🤪

... sorry for bringing this up, yesterday's thread about "can't believe I'm getting paid for this," one post mentioned he was frolicking in the sands of Key West while the wife with a cranky baby was somewhere in middle of winter. About the GPA, started with 3.21 --> 2.7 --> 3.4. I asked about the 2.7 and he said there's a consensus to relax a bit. I think his confidence is growing along with his baby 🐥 leadership fangs and claws. Without fully realizing it, he already practiced the concept "can't believe I am getting paid for this" last Protramid. He spent one week in Virginia Beach, in his own hotel room. And during the YP cruise up in NY, he stayed in his friend's Manhattan apartment while the rest of the crew stayed in a hotel. The expenses were nuts... $60+ dinners and $80 spas. What's up with the new generation? I'll never ever use a spa. Period.

Lol years ago I gave my wife an expensive trip to a luxury spa. She couldn’t find a friend to go with her because of the cost. So I went with her on an anniversary.

Massage was horrible - at the time I was getting weekly two hour massages from a little old lady that was the absolute best at deep tissue massage.

And I had to get something else. So I went for my first and only pedicure.

It was incredible.

... to me, spa is looney tune. During R&R in Doha, Qatar I've seen combat vets go in a spa for the full treatment... Mud mask, manicure, pedicure, massage, while wearing a white velvety robe. Please!!!

... so this is "bro, what are you thinking?" post. There's a brewing scandal and about to hit the fan in NCAAF sign stealing practice. Last year's semi championship game TCU was warned by several head coaches about Michigan's prolific sign stealing expertise. Then TCU sent this in every play: SIGN 1, Dummy, Sign 2, and players executed original sign. And in USNA Football all we worry about is the triple option and undersized O/D linemen.

Holy crap, it's 12 week exams already this week!!

Kid sais his Physics professor is being pretty generous with his curving, so kid isn't totally bombing the class. :p (Although he doesn't think it will be reflected on his 12 week grades).

Things sure have changed since the days of Capt. Gastrock! His favorite trick was to spout off random equations right before the start of a test to "wash out" all the last minute memorization that you had done.

Let’s not mention this to my mid, she’ll want to switch professors!
