Calling All Football Fans

September 25, 2010: Army-35 Duke-21
October 30, 2010: Duke-34 Navy- 31

December 11, 2010 could be a very interesting day.

Got to see my first Navy game in person Sat. and only had to fly 1300 miles to do it. It is truly a special place and I hope to catch home games at all the service academies in the future.

If Army can install Cutcliffe's passing offense by Dec., then Navy's in trouble. Navy has a hard time dropping into proper pass coverage and was exploited most of the day. Give credit to the soph.? Duke QB who I believe had his first game with no INTs. Duke also had 0 TOs. They had 5 (3 int., 2 fum.) vs. Army.

Navy also has problems with clock management (probably due to the style of offense). And we could use a plebe who validated calculus on the sideline to tell us when to go for two, instead of burning timeouts.

The mids never quit the fight and that did make it interesting. :thumb:

I frequently have to remind people who are not as fanatical about college football that there is NO transitive property in college football.

If we look at the raw stats of this game, it suggests that Army defends the pass better than Navy does, especially against Duke's scheme. But Navy is a running team. However, if you watched the VMI game, Army was not good at defending the underneath pass routes. Navy would be wise to work that into the arsenal. Flat passes and hitch passes, with yards after the catch, were key to VMI moving the ball.

I can't make myself extrapolate much from this one game, especially since Navy knows how to defend against a triple option. Defending the option is all about discipline. Nothing builds that discipline like seeing it everyday out of your own people.

You wil not see the foliage. It is all gone after the winds and rain. Everything now is just a few gold and mostly dead brown. All the reds are gone. You will still see the beautiful Hudson and the view from the Point. The place is still amazing even in the dead of winter.:thumb:

Are you basing that on your area in CT?

The leaves outside the valley tend to change sooner, by about 2 or 3 weeks in many years. The river keeps things warmer and wetter, which holds off the color change. My roommate and I used to comment on the difference when we'd leave after a football game and go to his folks' house in Ridgefield, CT.

Geeez Scout - you sure do take the fun out of building excitement for the Army-Navy game this year.

Army beating Duke and Navy losing to Duke could, maybe, possibly give the Army fans out there hope that this may be THE year to beat Navy after 8 years.
College fans all over the country use 'transitive property' every week when comparing their favorite team to other teams.
Makes for fun talk around the water cooler!

Helicopter pilots, bomb techs, and Army fans all share a common notion that something is always apt to go terribly awry at the critical moment.

It will take me 20 years to get over the 0-13 season Army put up my firstie year. As Charles Barkley would say, "That was turruble. Just turruble."

Time to move on Scout - time to move on. :shake:

He's talked about running for Governor of my fair state in a few years! That would sure shake up politics 'round here !

Kinda of a poor foliage season everywhere, isn't it? Down South we never got any good frosts so the leaves just went from green to brown and then fell off.

For Army-Navy, Navy's chances depend on which team plays that weekend. "A" team, you don't have a chance. "B" team, Highland Falls High could whip their butts.

Navy also has problems with clock management (probably due to the style of offense). And we could use a plebe who validated calculus on the sideline to tell us when to go for two, instead of burning timeouts.
Saturday, with possibly the exception of ND, was the best it has been all season. We normally use all three in the first 10 minutes of the period. We even called one last week so ND could decide whether to kick a FG or not.

Wouldn't want Mongo to miss out on the beautiful foliage, so here are some pics from a few weeks ago.

A few weeks ago was pretty good with red and gold but all gone now. We haven't gotten a real frost yet so our leaves were pretty good. A killing frost kills the colors from what I know. Gradual makes for the best color change. Glad Buff81 gave you a view of our beautiful New England.:thumb: Hope you don't get snow for the game Mongo as it can happen. Didn't know the leaves ever changed color in the South. I thought the Magnolias were always in bloom and the Azaleas just slept for a couple of months.

Thanks for the pics. It is a beautiful place. And I have found that the longer I have been retired from the Navy the more I like the mountains. These little southern mountains are boring for skiing so I took up snowboarding last winter just to spend more time in them. Pray for snow.

Glad to hear you are still able to participate in active winter sports. :thumb:
Yep, the VA people kinda shake their heads sometimes. Especially when I had to list a reason, "improve my balance so I can snowboard better" as to why I was requesting physical therapy. One of my doctors I think is hitting on me. She wants to go white water rafting with me the next time I go. And even though I do rate the Handicap Parking Pass, I would be embarassed to use it since I try to walk about 4 miles a day, sometimes after I have walked nine holes of golf. Life is good.

I see that the USAFA head coach is an alum of the school. Out of my own interest, does anyone know what his AFSC was on active duty? I can't seem to find that info with a Google search.

Can't find actve duty?

1985: Lettered as a Freshman
1989: Quarterback
1990: Graduate assisstant
Offensive coordinator through 1994
Ohio University 1995 etc. etc.

High 51 with winds about 5 to 10 MPH at game time. Really balmy for this time of year. Parade would be a little colder but no wind, no problem. Frost just makes it look better as everything sparkles in the sunrise.

Outside of coaching football is what I was wondering (his core AFSC). He clearly spent a year as a graduate assistant, and then returned in 1993, but I was curious what else he did on AD.

In the season finale today at noon, Coast Guard (2-6) hosts 1st place Maine Maritime. (listen live at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/coast-guard-sports )

Last year against MMA, the Bears scored 49 points (6 TD passes by the freshman QB) and still lost by 27 points, as MMA rolled up a D3 record 730 yards of rushing and an NEFC record 76 points.

As for what the Bears are up against today: Maine Maritime has ran 499 plays this season. 473 of them were rushing plays.

Hint - stack the line and make them throw.
