Candidate slots?

Thank you!! I am enjoying it! I’m 3Q’d +nom... I’m nervous but nothing like my parents. Between basketball and personal work-outs all my CFA numbers are really good... thanks again!

I think that parents (on the average) do not realize just how much them being anxious, makes their candidate anxious.

Truer words have never been said. Throughout the college application process — from choosing which colleges to apply to, all the way to deciding which college to attend — nothing creates an anxious experience quite like anxious parents. Moms and Dads, from a Dad who’s been through this: Watch yourself carefully. As you go, so goes your kid.

Luckily for my son, he had several things that kept him from letting his anxiousness run wild. First, he started dating his first girlfriend in October. Spending a lot of his time with a beautiful young lady (father was an officer in army and they love him) helps. Second, basketball season drained his time. Playing on a good team and having two games a week and practices that take 3.5 to 4 hours daily commitment was what the doctored ordered.

His father was anxious, but that didn’t show to him. And his mother didn’t know anything about the process or discuss it with him much at all when he was with her.

His real issue was he didn’t develop the best plan b and cs. He was accepted into a solid SUNY university and he would have been almost done with his law degree in 2023 if he didn’t get in to USNA. And as his peers were getting accepted into top schools in the country - he was adamant that the only top school he wanted was USNA - and with an LOA he earned it ... but the only thing stopping him was genetic (on his mothers side ;) ).

This was a good lesson for him. He has never faced adversity in anything he has done.

The last month he checked his portal weekly. But he knew it was a waste of time because emails were always sent when he portal changed.

Now that he is in ... and he has been named valedictorian ... he looks forward to a wonderful spring playing tennis, running and working out to be ready for Plebe summer.

My heart aches knowing the wait other families have in front of them. These are all good, worthy kids.

Congrats A-1! Enjoy the ride.

The other truth not being said is that the candidates are all competitive. Just because a minority or a woman is selected doesn’t mean they were less deserving than a white male that was not selected.

The goal of getting women to 50% doesn’t mean taking less qualified candidates ... it means getting the better qualified women to apply.
So you are saying the women at the Academy now are not the best the country has?

I would argue that the men are the best the country has to offer. Frankly, I also believe that of the women. As a result, I think the plan the academy has will change things dramatically. The average scores for women candidates being admitted will start to go down. The average scores for the men will have to go up. It is just a simple mathematic equation.

I didn’t say that at all.

I am saying that the women and minorities are deserving of their appointments. And it is a fallacy to assume there were better candidates that they beat out.

My son deserved his appointment. My daughter would have been just as deserving if she applied years ago.

The concept that only the men are the best candidates is ludicrous.
My point is that race and sex should not be a factor at all in acceptance at West Point. They should take the top "people" no matter what their race or sex. They are training the future leaders of our military. As I have said before, if that means all Army officers are Asian females, so be it. In addition there should be no difference in any standard. That includes the PT test. A woman that does one pull up should not get the same score as a man that does 18. It is a joke.

It’s the whole candidate. A woman that does 1 pull-up might bring something to the table that the stronger man doesn’t.
