Citadel 2012!!!

Hahaha I didn't receive it but I heard about it. Yes, I'm sure both colleges are competing for the best of the female cadets. Which must mean you're a female? I'm sorry. This whole time I thought you were a male. Now that I know that you're a female I think you should go to The Citadel two fold. Hahaha. That school could use some good female cadets

Quick question.

WHERE IN THE WORLD DO I FIND MY "CIT" NUMBER?!?!

that's a tough one. should i be one of 7% girls at VMI or 8% girls at the citadel? lol. :shake:
(by the way, the girl "haters" at VMI have already given me an internet sweatparty and showed their gheyness and boylove: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SpaKWHaxBE .)

Your CIT number is on the invoice they send you. didn't you get the $300 invoice? call the college if you didn't get it.

Okay, the first envelope I received contained:

1) Letter of academic acceptance.
2) Certificate of academic acceptance.

The second envelope, which came like five days later contained:

1) Instructions
2) Public Affairs sheet
3) Medical & Drug Consent Forms
4) Requirements Checklist

So...no invoice at all. Did you get your invoice with your forms or did it come separately? Argh. This is frustrating me. I want to secure my spot NOW! Hahaha

invoice comes in a 3rd, business size envelope. only invoice, a coverletter and an envelope to send it back in.

Oh man, I read through all the comments on that vid. Boy oh boy were they racking you. Stay strong.

Just out of curiosity- you said that you did actually visit VMI on the overnight program? I saw the comments on the youtube site but I just have to think that they are not representative of much at VMI. Did the women you were racking in with seem to think that they receive any unusual grief (beyond what the Rat Line gives everybody)from 99% of the upper class, or that the Commandant, Tac Staff as well as the cadet chain of command and "GC" would fail to jump on this kind of behavior? (Which would be really worrisome - and hopefully not the the case)
You should expect to have a hard time there- but it should be an across the board hard time for every Cadet. (Added to which is the reality that you also will have things more difficult just by being less than 10% of the cadet population). I would hate to see someone extrapolate from these "tools" comments that this is the norm and then make a decision not to attend VMI because of that. I just think that you have a couple of random idiots that you are dueling with on the web but maybe I am wrong.

yeah, i stayed overnight. it was awesome. :thumb: no way i would decide on going to a college i don't visit.

i did stay in the barracks with some 4/c girls (they just had broken out 2 weeks before when i went there). they definitely said they receive a lot of grief. in fact what they call the misoginists are "haters". it's definitely better now than before although haters still like to throw the c**t word around alot. heard tale from a 1/c girl that haters used set up porn on their computers and then call in female rats for "counseling" sessions and make them look at it. but my admin counselor said that 2 big things have changed- being a hater is no longer considered cool, and secondly COL Trumps, the new commandant, openly calls himself a "hater hater" and has been meeting with the girls and boys to try to reduce this.

here is something that GEN Peay said in Aug 2007 that was in something I found on the VMI website:
4. The Board briefly discussed several of the above mentioned topics. Emphasis was placed on the importance of civility particularly in cadet attitudes toward women. General Peay noted success in the area of assimilation and described it as “a journey.”

i think that all these efforts by COL Trumps will just drive the haters more underground, but they will still be hang out at VMI for a long time. what might change things is if what my admissions counselor says is true (she herself was one of the first girls to graduate from VMI) and it's becoming uncool to be a hater. but even then, there will be boys that take pride in being uncool.

the problem i have heard is that there really are girls that don't belong at VMI because they just aren't physically fit enough. i've heard this from a non-hater cadet. and this just makes the haters hate all girls even more.

(i just think that haters should pay attention to DADT and just come out of the closet and admit they are gay :shake:. LOL!)

btw, since this is a Citadel thread, i should say that the Citadel also has its own "haters". i've been talking a lot on another forum with this girl who is now a student naval aviator, and she graduated from the citadel. she says she just would call all their haters "gay" because they liked boys more than girls (like the definition of "gay". lol)

omg- the citadel has sent me a "2nd notice" that i haven't paid the $300 deposit! all with red letters and everything. and May 1 is still 4 weeks away! LOL

Another avenue I would take....zero tolerance...if a "hater" has a problem with a female, and is harrassing her, he's gone, end of story. Drive them underground? No, drive them to the bus station and send them home.

It's not appropriate in a college, and it's certainly not appropriate in the US Armed Forces. Light them up, then send them packing.

Hahahaha it's another calling. You need to go to El Cid!

BTW.

I think the haters are just secretly finding some way to talk to girls.

I am pretty sure that is what the commandant and superintendents intention is- but you never catch all of them despite best intentions and certainly you don't catch all of them right away (hence the line "driving them underground"). Remember last falls issue with the nooses at the CGA- same deal. That clearly was not indicative of anymore than one or two knotheads- but there are always one or two who don't get the message and catching them isn't always that easy. I'm sure that if the Tac staff at VMI catches these fools they are gone but you gotta catch them. Unfortunately the internet allows anonymity so the idiots making these posts to her are pretty hard to shut off. Educating cadets so they see harrassment in the same light as honor violations (fundamentally wrong and not to be tolerated by anyone - cadet or administration) is ultimately how they get it shut off.

i don't know if VMI would want to ever make gender harrassment in as a honor violation. the "a cadet will never lie cheat or steal or tolerate those who do" is so traditional that i can't imagine VMI would ever change that to add more things cadets will never do. just my thought here.

(by the way, GEN Peay, the superintendent, seems to be hugely respected at VMI. he's also the last full General that VMI has graduated. he himself definitely has strong views on females' roles in the military though:

but this has nothing to do with his work on increasing civility at VMI though.)

You will find as you go along that lots of peoples perspectives and thoughts change over time- what somebody thought in 1994 - 14 years ago is not necessarily what they think now. You for example were 3 years old when this was written - is your opinion the same now as it was then? Gen Peay may or may not hold those same views but I wouldn't presume to quote a 14 year old newspaper article and state that they are his current views. Gen Peay and Colonel Trumps are striving to bring more professionalism into the cadet corps- and both have spent their lives as Army Officers - they understand both what is right and what is professional conduct- which is why they are trying to crack down on harrassment in all forms and why they are trying to imbue Cadet life with a greater degree of civility between cadets. Finally- You are right- I am not suggesting this gets added to the Honor code. Rather- what makes the honor code effective is that it is understood that certain conduct is beyond the pale and can't be accepted by anyone. When the type of unequal conduct that you are describing is internalized by the corps then it will end because the cadets themselves will not allow it to happen- which is why the honor code works now.

oh, i probably shouldn't even have mentioned his views- they really have nothing to do with the great job he and COL Trump are doing at VMI! and you're right, this is a very old article. :)

and as i said before, everyone i spoke to at VMI says the "hating" thing has really gotten better with time.

actually, i was counselled by a VMI 3/c cadet to keep a lower profile on the internet. i actually think i understand it now. those haters that are willing to come out and say stuff on the internet would be afraid to do anything on post that they could get caught for and get in trouble for. they might think the same stuff, but wouldn't do anything to me that could get them into trouble. but being anonymous on the internet, they can let their misoginist thoughts flow freely. so for this reason, i stopped even saying anything on that youtube thread. anyways, it wouldnt do anything except make all the haters come out of the closet in the safety of being anonymous.

well, as of tonite, my college decision has gotten a lot tougher, because...

I JUST GOT NOTIFIED THAT I GOT A FULL-RIDE TO THE CITADEL!!!!

:jaw: :jump1::beer1: :biggrin:

Well, then, CONGRATULATIONS are in order!! Congrats :thumb:! It is an honor to receive such a great scholarship from The Citadel!

Oh wow. Congratulations!!! Well, this just about wraps it up. I'll see you at El Cid!

thanks!

well, it's definitely not a done deal for me though that i want to go to El Cid- i think my dad will let me go to another school even without a scholarship, and up until now, it wasn't my first choice. and i've also applied for a Navy ROTC scholarship which hasn't accepted or rejected me yet. so it's possible that i could have scholarship money even if i go someplace else like VMI...

so i'm definitely going to still be thinking hard about this and my other choices.

but it's definitely a nice surprise! :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

(and i think i'm going to be forced now to pay my $300 deposit, and get my physical exam, to make sure this doesn't suddenly disappear on me! )
