Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Stalking and Lurking

Hello - I have been stalking the mailbox and lurking on this thread for over a year now. DS received a nom last year but received a TWE. We were so anxious every day for news. He has had a great year with his backup plan being a freshman in a dorm and having a blast as well as (ahem) working hard. On Monday we heard from our Congresswoman, the Honorable Cathy McMorris-Rogers that he would receive an appointment. Previously she had informed my son that he had received the principle nomination so the 3Q was the next hurdle.

This week, I hoped on Wednesday that the letter would be sent. Today it arrived. I wanted to share it with folks that have the same butterflies and heart palpitations that I have have had. If it doesn't work out this year, I think that continuing to pursue the dream is important. I have really tried not to influence DS, because it needs to be 100% his choice through thick and thin in the coming years. I think I am going to pop!

2nd BFE

Does anyone know how long it should take for my second BFE to come? I sent my letter of appointment back, signed, 2 weeks ago.

I wrote yesterday that my DS received his BFE yesterday. Today, we received the greatest news, which is that his medical waiver has been granted.
Thank you Lord! We are so happy that we cannot find the words to say how grateful and excited our entire family is today. Since my DS left for school before the news about the medical waiver being granted, we went to his high school with 12 balloons and the vice-principal entered his classroom with my husband and me to announce my son's official appointment to the USAFA. My son was grinning from ear to ear, and it was a day we will always cherish and remember. Thank you for your prayers. Your sons and daughters will continue to be in our prayers as we know how important this decision is for all of the wonderful candidates.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

WooHoo !!!!!!!!!!!!! So happy for you, your DS and your entire family.

:jump1::jump1: CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats - see - it all worked out in the end!!!!

Now, for some celebration...

Ok y'all ready for some comic relief? (Well at least DH & I thought it was funny).

I had a dream last night...

We were applying to the Academy! Notice I say "we" - we as in my DH and I. Yep, the oldest geriatric recruits ever (I am not calling myself old, however geriatric would be the right term to use when comparing us to the other 18,19, 20 y/o cadets. AND you are called geriatric if you have a baby over the age of 35- i'm 38 - i'd be 42 when we graduated and 62 at retirement - hey that sounds almost on par! LOL) I was on the "Alaska" (we don't live in AK - but are AK residents) list and my DH on the "prior enlisted" list (hubby was enlisted, went ROTC - so we've kinda been there, done that). At our CURRENT age. DH and I got divorced so we could apply. I have no idea where my DS was in this dream. We got weighed and measured, met the requirements took the PFT (probably called something else in the USAFA world - and I could probably pass in RL too) - passed and was fully qualified. We were just waiting and checking results 24/7 in my dream for our acceptance.

CLEARLY there is something wrong with my brain... eat, breathe, sleep, and DREAM the hopes of a BFE these days... but hey at least i'm getting sleep!

DS sent his back on the 29th of October 2011 and he still has not received the second package. There is an online version is which you can get your immunization package and the measurements paperwork for uniform issue. Note on the uniforms there is an email and phone number for faxing them in that is active now. DS received an email on Thursday requesting measurements. They will size most of the Blues when you get there, but it gives them a chance to have the right sizes available for everyone. I remember in 2010 when DD went they did not have enough Blues coats and she was only issued one, to this date I don't think she has gotten the other one.

Make sure to keep copies of all paperwork you send them and take them with you on I-Day! Especially immunization records, you don't want to get any shots you really don't need that day!

Batmom, I am so happy for your DS. We too are waiting for the medical waiver after receiving the conditional acceptance. Congratulations and I will keep praying for all who have not heard anything yet. I'm also praying my DS receives his medical waivier real soon!!

I think last year (at least for the 3-4 kids we knew going to the AFA from our area) no matter when the acceptance was signed and sent in, the second BFE didn't come until April. Maybe they wait until all the first BFE's go out by March, and then start work on the second? Don't know. I wouldn't worry yet, just be prepared to get busy on paperwork when it does come. My son also got emails into May asking for other information, it will seem like an endless stream of communication! And like kdc said, keep a copy of everything you snail mail or email in! My son made a file (one of those accordian style plastic envelopes that hold 8 x 11 pieces of paper) with all the different things you'll complete/send in (immunizations, security clearance, insurance, final transcripts etc.) and took that with him on I Day. Just in case.

Thank you for the notes...

We want to thank everyone for the notes of encouragement and congratulations. We are still so excited that we almost cannot find adequate words to describe our joy. My son has already posted on his facebook account and everyone is sending him notes of congratulations. He is beyond happy!!! We are all thanking the Lord and everyone who has prayed for us too.
We are still praying for ALL OF YOU waiting. It is so painful to wait and it is particularly challenging when your DD or DS needs the medical waiver. We know your heartache and will pray for GREAT news for you too!!!

Good Morning fellow mailbox stalkers!

I know we are STILL officially one week and possibly two weeks away from "Mid March". Like many of you that has not deterred my mailbox stalking efforts in the past few days!

Hopefully, the wait will end soon with good news and visions of BFE's. Until then......

SMNE............... :)

Hang in there! Mail sent on Weds. from CO to NC might not arrive until Tuesday. Otherwise it will probably be Saturday at the earliest before we might expect it again. It has helped me somewhat to understand the mailing cycle.

It has helped me too. I figure that Saturday followed by Monday are the days for the heart pounding walk to the box. Now I must add Tuesday to the list! I'm hoping a phone call from our MOC will give us a heads up on the box stalking. Our MOC held a reception for all of his nominees back in January. He stated that one of the best parts of his job is calling young people to inform them of receiving an appointment to a service academy.

So, having said that, anytime the phone rings, I'm on pins and needles as well. I've even wondered how we would know our MOC will call from, Washington DC area code or our state capital!

Hoping for the Best!

Sounds like a call from your MOC will likely be your first notification. Good for you! Best wishes to you and your Candidate!

Meanwhile, we just wait.......

Just got another e-mail from our MoC...Last week, they apparently thought they would need to talk to DS, and sent an e-mail asking for his phone no., but what news they expected didn't come...THIS e-mail today says "Okay, NOW, I need to talk to"...DS. Sounds like good news coming. Unfortunately we won't find put anything right away because DS is at a UIL History competition and may not be able to answer his phone.:shake:

No pun intended to your moniker, but don't count the chicks before they hatch.

You stated the contacted your DS last week, was there a telephone tag issue that wasn't resolved?

Hoping for the very best outcome with an appointment today!

NCMOM26,

DC is a 202 area code so from now on if you see 202 take the call!

It has helped me too.

We rarely get phone calls but the last 3 weeks we have gotten a lot, many from out-of-state. Last night I made my DS's b-day cake and didn't know what to put on it so I did half and half, the left is the AROTC emblem and the right the Air Force emblem. I really just want to make one really big cake with the USAFA emblem on it. Oh well, every day that goes by gets us one day closer to having answers....

I'm in NC as well and trying to figure out which days I should be running to the mailbox. If they send out notifications on a Wednesday isn't it more likely that the portal will update first?
