Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Yes. You can update your package. My son's package had already met the board and they said that it never hurts to keep everything current. Just fax the data with a cover sheet.
Is faxing better than mailing? Even after the 31 jan deadline (<<---correct me if that was not the deadline for 2016), I still kept mailing in accomplishments like my minority officer told me to do for WP (my high school doesnt let me fax info) :frown: And how do you know if the candidate's package has met the board already?

USAFA Candidate 2016
Competitive Nominee SC-02

Humm- we were told no update would be considered after the Jan 31 deadline. That was not only from ALO but also directly from admissions. Think the only exception is for Dodmerbs and waivers.

I don't know if this counts, but about a month ago I sent in new ACT scores and they were updated within a week.

Still waiting for news here too! I just want to know! :eek3:

Well, I talked to my USAFA counselor to get my 7th semester transcript updated... which happened about 2 weeks ago. He also said that my file would be updated before the next review board meets.

Correction... The date is feb 15th for all updates according to the canidate handbook. Jan 31 was for nominations.

Good Luck to everyone patiently waiting!!!

Well, as we all begin the third week of March, I wanted to wish everyone waiting for the BFE GOOD LUCK!!!! I understand how trying this whole process has been for everyone, but just remember what is meant to be will be. All candidates are special, extraordinary young peeople. None of you would have gotten this far in the process if you weren't. I'm sure there will be disappointments and elations. Just keep in mind who you really are and look to the future! I keep trying to tell my DS that whatever happens is meant to be! GOOD LUCK again and I am praying for everyone!!! Be sure to keep all of us posted.

I've answered "has DS heard anything yet" so many times that I think it's driving me mad. I didn't know that so many people in our small community knew about what DS is awaiting new of. I guess it won't be as long now as it has been. :)

At least I had the real "March Madness" to distract me this past weekend. Go Heels!

"Interesting" news today. DS was interested in both USAFA and USNA. He received an LOA and offer of appointment to USNA, but he's been waiting to see if he would be offered an appointment to USAFA and could choose. Unfortunately(?), his USAFA portal changed and said his application was "Complete but administratively disqualified." His USAFA counselor said that his CFA score was no longer competitive and that because the competition is so tough this year, they are not allowing "re-do's." So...DS will be going to USNA. The choice between the two was close anyway, so we're celebrating him going to USNA:thumb:. His best friend is a fellow football player on our HS football team, he is also going to USNA as a recruited athelete (an offensive back). I was looking forward to taking a week vacation in Co. Spgs. this June and meeting many of you, but that's not in the cards. I want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and guidance. Good luck to all of you! And if, like our DS, your DS or DD doesn't get that BFE from USAFA, I know that these outstanding young men and women will have great Plans B, C, D etc. and will serve our nation wonderfully and be incredibly successful in whatever they do, whether it's in the USAFA or elsewhere. If I had a wish for all of you that don't get a BFE, it would be that you would be as happy with the Plan B, as we are with DS's. May God Bless! ...BTW, for those of you watching, DS is TX-14.

For some reason, today's mailbox stalking felt different. I was almost afraid to open the mailbox door. I used to open it and excitedly look for BFEs, but today I opened it and immediately noticed how many TWEs were in there. I slowly pulled them out and went through them--PHEW--the TWEs were just communications from VMI and the Citadel and bills. But, I definitely felt the difference. Maybe my nerves are just shot--I don't know. I try to remain optimistic but some days are just easier than others. Here's to hoping everyone gets BFE's in this week and we can all start making plans to attend Parent's Weekend.

Congratulations!!! I wish you and your family the best!! I'm so relieved for you and your DS that the waiting is over and he can move on to setting his sights on the USNA. He will do great things! To quote my DS "In the end, all that matters is we will be serving our great nation". I'm sure your son feels the same. Don't forget all of us here in stalker-land!

Congratulations Prof

Dear Profsparrow,
Congratulations to you and your DS about the great news about the Naval Academy. How thrilled you must be and how proud you should all be. It can be interesting how everything works out.
My DS thought he wanted Navy first and then changed his mind to Air Force first. Then, he received the Principal Nomination to the USAFA and the Principal Alternate to the Navy. Finally, he was accepted to the USAFA and not accepted to the Navy. So, it all worked out, and my DS is still over the moon with joy...I am still praying daily for all of those still waiting. It is so painful to wait, and I know that the "unknown" is excruciating, and it certainly makes for great difficulty in sleeping well. I can honestly say that all of you have made this stressful and challenging journey more palatable because of your encouraging and humorous comments. I am praying for BFE's for ALL OF YOU!!!

Wow Profsparrow, thanks for the update. Your DS has an amazing opportunity in the USNA!

I've become invested in all your DS/DD outcomes. Please continue to update!

We are currently working on Plan D.

Plan A - USAFA (Pending - portal remains unchanged)
Plan B - USNA (Pending)
Plan C - Type 1 AFROTC scholarship (OUT) -
Plan D - Type 2 AFROTC scholarship (he was awarded a 4 year - can it be converted to a Type 1, 3 year?).
Plan E - I lock him in his room!

Please please please let Plan A or B come through!

profsparrow: The Navy is very fortunate to have you DS. He will do well there, after all that is obviously where he is supposed to be. Congratulations to him and your family and good luck to you all.

Sorry to hear about the USAFA news but congrats to you and DS on his appointment to USNA.

On the other hand, now I am officially going mad! I am too terrified to check DS's portal today with the news that your DS's CFA was no longer competitive.

Oh My!

WOW profsparrow!

I have to say this was the 1st yr that I didn't see a re-do CFA thread. Hindsight is 20/20 vision.

I highly doubt he boffed the CFA as an FB player, but it maybe that portion was below. Note to 2017: AFA really cares about the CFA because they are at the highest elevation of all SA's and this will be a BCT issue.

The AF's loss is the Navy's gain, and with every breath in me, I believe he will be an amazing officer. Great things will come!

CristalLee,

Unless things have changed, and may very well have, there is no conversion for Type 2 to 1 regarding scholarship.

Type 2 is they will pay up to 18K in tuition and you pay the remainder. I do not know the college your child has selected, but if your child has a Type 2, top 25% in AFROTC recipients, most likely they will get merit from the college.

I can not in any manner fathom why you would want a Type 1 3 yr. Reason why is that come their sophomore yr in AFROTC it is EA/SFT. Don't get it and they can cut you at the end of your sophomore yr.

Financially, it would have to be 20-30K in difference to risk the 1 yr.

Wow, I am really shocked!

Wasn't the CFA lumped in with ALO interview, writing sample, fac and staff review for 20% of the WCS? Wow, this is scary. Good that your DS had the appointment to USNA. Good luck to him! :thumb:

Sorry to see you go (especially to Navy ). You have been a real plus to the USAFA threads and your humor will definitely be missed. Best wishes to your DS at USNA.

My understanding is that the CFA is an important part of the WCS, obviously it's more important this year! DS was a lineman and linebacker on our HS team. He delayed putting in his CFA because he was trying to lose weight and improve his pull ups. Being a big guy he struggled with it. He's lost about 20 pounds since he put in his CFA scores, but they're not going to open the portal for a re-do. So USAFA is being VERY picky this year, especially considering that he got an LOA from Navy a few days after he completed his CFA (which was the final item he had needed to complete his app). Don't be too scared about it on his account though. When he went to USAFSS this past summer, he said there was only one other person there that was of his size. It is a lot harder to haul 215 pounds of muscle over a chin-up bar than it is for most people. I guess what to take away from this is to have a great plan B, and C. And to keep in mind that our "kids" are pretty fantastic just to be competing candidates and will be great no matter where they end up! :thumb:

On a side note, I wish the USNA forum was as active as the USAFA threads. Y'all are GREAT! My only regret is that I probably won't get to meet y'all!
