OK, maybe this is just a mom thing and sounds silly, but does anyone know, especially asking current cadets, whether the Academy "issues" clothes to sleep in? Or, are the basics and/or cadets just expected to "wing it"; pardon the pun. thanks.

I have heard that the Class of 2020 will not be issued the "actual" pajamas (It's a blessing. I promise). The only time I wore them was when we had to stand in the hallway for TAPS (and only during First BCT). After I went back to my room, I changed out of them because they were so uncomfortable. You will figure out what you want to wear at night very quickly. Also, you will be issued sweatpants that super comfortable, and many flights may just have their basics wear PC Gear (shorts and a t-shirt) for TAPS. Bottom line: don't worry about it. USAFA will issue you everything you need.

No one wears the issued pajamas(unless required in basic)...they'll figure figure it out. They're America's Best and Brightest after all.

Mom, I can't tell you how seriously I mean this: RELAX. Your soon to be basic will have things all figured out in no time. If s/he wants a nightie or a woobie from mom, s/he'll ask for it. Send NOTHING with Johnny or Susie that is not on the acceptables list. Send nothing unless specifically requested during BCT (OK, later I will tell you all about how to get around the no pictures rules, etc.

Your cadet should have NOTHING extra to haul around during I-Day, and trust me, she will never ever want that special attention which would come from Mom sending her pajamas during BCT, or even, before Recognition.

Now is the time to prepare yourself Mom and DAd, not just Johnny & Susie, that this is a new and different life they've chosen. Not children at all any more, and not at Flagship U. Check out some of the older posts here just on this subject.

Not criticizing at all. Many of us have gone through the same feelings you are having now, especially that desire to make sure your child is comfortable, well fed, etc., just as you have done for the past 18 years. It's a whole new ballgame now. With new referees.

I have no intention of sending extra items for DD to lug around, especially items that are not listed. We both laughed about it when she was reading through the "Instructions to Appointees" and commenting about sleeping in "minimal" clothing. T-shirts are the typical night wear around our house (TMI?)
Considering DH is a '79 grad, we have some insight into what is coming, although I'm sure it has changed a bit, for the better. His graduating class had no females.
Believe me, DD is extremely independent and usually gives me that "really mom, I've got this" look.
    Thanks for the reassurances, though.

Our USNA sponsor daughters over the years have slept in workout clothes, the better to be "decent" for trips to the head, rollout early for PT, unexpected wake-ups as plebes. USNA stopped issuing the robe some time ago.

The USAFA bathrobe is an iconic symbol of panache and is one of the most highly cherished of issue items.

I know of no classmates that do not still have their issued bathrobe and display it properly on the brown plastic hangar on the far left of their closet when not wearing it to read the paper or make the daily trip to the mailbox.

If USAFA no longer issues the blue robe with the crest, I am deeply saddened and will inform the Superintendent of my displeasure.

I still have by B Robe from USNA and also a Cadet one from West Point that I won in a bet! It is rarely worn, but hangs on the back of my door.

I used to love it when the Brigade Commander would present a custom-embroidered B Robe to visiting VIP speakers. I think Mid Store still has it, it's just not issued.

The robe doesn't have the crest. It has class-colored trim (so mine is blue with gold trim) and Prop & Wings on the pocket.
