great...now people are judging me because of what i said in a forum post.
There is nothing to be upset about. You yourself just said this is a "Forum Post". That means that no one here actually knows you. Which means, that nothing anyone here says should affect you personally. There are some posters here who have been part of this "Forum Family" for a number of years. I could see them possibly being upset over something another "Forum Family" member said. But as long as you know what you mean by what you said, and you're ready for whatever happens, then you should be fine. And nothing said here should bother you. Some of us know each other personally. We've met and chatted outside of this forum. But you shouldn't let it bother you.
But you and ALL others preparing to go to the academy should HEED Hornet's wisdom. You, no one, has ANY idea what you need to do to be successful at the academy. There's those that have gone through CAP who think they are ready and know what to expect. There are those who have been JrROTC who think they are ready and know what to expect. There are those who were in scouting who think they are ready and know what to expect. There are those who are Brats and DO know what to expect, but they think they are ready too. Well guess what; NONE of these people are ready. And even if they know what to expect, they aren't ready for it either. The minute you cross the bridge, pick up your back pack or luggage, and get on the bus, your entire perspective of life WILL CHANGE. And for the next 48 hours, time will no longer exist. And THAT's the EASY PART of the academy. Trust Hornet, you don't know what it takes to be successful at the academy. Not one student does. Because to be successful is an individual thing. And that individual success is going to be totally based on your interaction with other people. In other words, you could be the BEST athlete, the BEST in academics, and the BEST in military bearing.... And you could STILL NOT SUCCEED. Trust hornet in his wisdom.
And again, this is a forum. With the exception of a minority of us, most everyone here is a stranger in real life. Don't let anything anyone says here bother you. Between the mods and the posters self moderating, we don't allow posts to get personal. If you think something you are reading is personal against you, there's a 99.9999% chance it isn't. Blow it off. It's just one person trying to be helpful and insightful to give other a different perspective that they possibly didn't see it as. They are trying to be helpful. And most times when we post, we are also posting for the person lurking or who might search the threads months from now, so that they may learn from the information provided, and maybe not have to ask the same question again that someone else already asked in a previous post.
So best of luck to you futureafacadet. I hope you have a great end to your high school years. I hope you get to accomplish those things you wanted to do. That is important. I hope you find the balance so that everything works out the way you want it to. The same for every other appointee preparing to graduate high school and getting ready for "I" day. Best of luck to each and every one of you. Mike....
