First Board Results

I was not selected this board. My stats are 1330 SAT, 4.1 GPA, and captain of multiple teams, do I have a good shot at the next one? My interview also went pretty well I think.
No one knows what your chances are. Your academics look good. CBEF is unknown as well as interview. The majority of scholarships are awarded on the 2nd and 3rd Boards. Your stats look good - best of luck to you.

From the posts I’ve seen, all winners on first board were above 1450 SAT, team captains, etc. I think only about 8% of total scholarships are awarded 1st board.
My DS wasn't quite that high as a 1st board winner. 31 ACT/1400 SAT. But he is an Eagle Scout, team captain, Boys State attendee, has a part time job, and 4.0 UW GPA. Lots of winners still to come.

Not sure if this was related to the 1st board AROTC server issue, but DS portal never locked "school of intent" before or after selection. TBD if will be the same going forward for the next two cycles or if it was a 1st board anomaly. Just thought I would share because school of intent locking may no longer be an indication of an upcoming change in status. Good luck!
Historically - when your schools of intent lock it is a good indicator that you are being awarded a scholarship. This happens in the final stages of the Board process - it has nothing to do with your status.

My DS got a 36 ACT composite and has a 3.9 unweighted average. We are pushed to January and got the same email others mentioned. We are scratching our heads.

There’s no reason to scratch your head. The vast majority of scholarships are awarded in the second and third boards. There’s no shame — or need to worry — if not picked in the first board. Yes, the numbers look good, but two things to consider: (1) There’s more to this than just GPA and SAT/ACT; (2) You might be surprised at how many candidates have those same numbers or better.

Good news is, you’re still in the game. That’s all that matters at this point. Meanwhile, keep working Plan B, C, D…

+1 to MidCake. I would add that being submitted in time for the first board does not guarantee the application will be reviewed by the first board. Applications are processed on a first in, first out, basis. There is a finite amount of time the board has to review the applications. Let's say they can review and score X applications during the time allotted for the board. If your application was the X+1 submitted application, it will not be reviewed and scored; but will be addressed at the next board. The final board reviews and scores any unscored applications prior to awarding scholarships.

Ding, ding, ding. There it is- the first of several I had a high GPA and ACT/SAT so why aren’t rose petals being thrown at my feet from ROTC like they are from elite colleges entitlement email. Happens every year when people don’t realize just how awesome the top tier talent pool is of fellow applicants. Will happen again with the why wasn’t I selected group, and again when the 4.0 Yale entitled / unaware student gets dropped after two years in AFROTC. Like clockwork. National record holders, patent holding inventors, pilots, undefeated 4x state champs, etc. it ain’t all about GPA SAT and ACT folks. This ain’t the National Merit scholarship competition.
Predictable.

No worries OP I believe your young adult will get a scholarship if applied to multiple SA and ROTC branches with those numbers. stay humble out there.

I got that email as well and wondering the same thing as if my application was even considered for the 1st board!
My DS got that email and he was awarded a 4 year in the 1st Board. So I assume it was sent to all applicants or those who started an application.

Herman, - That is some pretty hateful speech there. You don't know us and so you couldn't possibly know that having rose petals thrown at our feet is our motivation. Maybe our motivation was to let others know on the forum that high scores are not a guarantee of anything.

Take your ding, ding ding and shove it.

DS got a 4 year to his top 3 schools!! He will be joining my DD as a 4 year winner, so proud! Congrats to everyone else who was selected & good luck to everyone in the next two boards! And his DODMERB is qualified...now we just wait for college decisions!
I see a lot of winners that say 4 Yr to top 3 schools. Can you clarify for me. Does that mean your DS had 7 schools listed but was only given the option of 4 year scholarship on those top 3 schools. Just curious. My son is applying to 2nd board and his top 6 schools are very close in preference to him. Is there any reason you can tell why they wouldn't give your son same offer for schools 4,5,6,7?

You usually only get three to choose from, at most. You hope it’s the top three from list, but not always.

Thanks....I will encourage DS to rank carefully. He is already accepted at a few of them. I'd expect the only unknown to be UCLA since they get so many apps. 6 of his 7 schools are in 8th Brigade which I would assume would help if he needed to change schools if he is fortunate enough to be selected/awarded.

Did he load up acceptance letters in portal? If not, I’d advise to do so.
