I don't know about any of you parents, but this process has taken years off my life. Lol. I have done everything I can to allow my DS to do the work needed to get in, and make sure he is the one that is responsible for the process. It is a delicate balance that requires an enormous amount of trust in him. At this point based on everything I have read, I would guess he has about a 50% chance of getting in with his resume. Strong in most areas, but average in other areas. One thing is for sure, he wants it more than anything and will be a Naval Officer at some point.
It has been an emotional rollercoaster and I am quite frankly exhausted. With that being said we have learned quite a bit along the way, and I would love to share any help I can with other parents wherever they are in the process. We have made some mistakes, and done some things really well. I am happy to share our experience and knowledge.

Best of luck to everyone.

I would delete your email. When your son is a Naval Officer, you should be anonymous.

And change your name.

And communicate with people through DM here.

Best of luck to your son.

It took years off my life as well. But I gained them back when he was inducted and out of my basement. ;)

If you feel he has a 50% chance with USNA, you both should take a look at USMMA. They are Navy Reserve while attending school, wear the Navy uniforms and sail in a Navy ship during sea year. Many choices at graduation, with the majority who decide to go active duty choose to go Navy. USMMA is the best kept secret of service academies due to the small class size, sea year project and options available after graduation. Good luck. It is a long process but worth it.

I think its the best kept secret across the entire spectrum of colleges/universities. Crazy demand for these grads when they are ready to join the private marine transport sector. Doesn’t have the “flash” of the USNA, but man is it a crazy great deal for a young person who wants to go to sea and a great choice for a plan B.

Great thought Karen. I will raise you a USCGA, a wonderful well respected school and a solid SA experience.

Just Dad… Do you know anything about earning a Congressional Nomination before completing your application to the school. I have been super interested in applying to the academies but my MOC reports Nominations early so I did that first. Now I want to know if I am eligible to even receive the nomination even though my application isn’t finished. Thoughts? Thanks.

Candidates get noms without having completed their applications all of the time so I'd say that you're eligible.
Now your Congressperson can choose to not nominate unless you're complete but that is up to them.

Also, try not to ask the same question in multiple posts/forums.

My bad. I won‘t in the future. Thank you.
