So, I-day is here again. I've been all over webguy (parents, see the Association of Graduates). Remembering those faces, the tears, the look of horror, the bored (probably "fake bored" look) look... What a memorable day for all!

Good luck Basics! Parents! Start Writing !!!

I saw quite a few in Air Force Academy stuff, I was VERY surprised to say the least!. Webguy....my new obsession....I had NO idea when y'all said it before this :) Dropping my son off....hardest and proudest day of my life. Coming home and seeing him on webguy, and not really being able to tell what look he had on his face....OMG! I dropped another letter in the mailbox in the Springs. I honestly don't know how you parents got through this 6 weeks...My hats really go off to everyone who felt what I felt for the first time today.

COMom, I still remember the first time I saw my kid on webguy!!! We have that picture posted on our refrigerator, and it's what, three years later. He is eating (well, he's looking at the plate) in his PT gear. Looks 100% miserable.

I have no idea how I got through those weeks and do feel for you. I think I spent the mortgage payment in postage!

Fencersmother, you are so right. The first couple weeks all the Webguy pictures will show them looking miserable. They're told not to smile. Then, as the weeks go by, they'll start to loosen up a little. We'll never forget the first time we saw a picture of our son smiling during BCT - such a relief! Seeing the pictures and videos today brought back memories of last year's I-Day and a flood of emotions. Hang on parents - it's a rollercoaster ride you'll never forget. :thumb:

My parents printed off photos of me when they found them on Webguy, then put them all into a binder that they could take and show people that might care. I remember seeing the binder sometime after basic and immediately spotting one photo of a kid who (in my opinion) did not look at all like me. It was easily confirmed by the name on the ABUs, which was clearly visible...

    Be careful! :thumb:

Thanks to all the parents who have been through this for sharing your advice, and experiences. It helps a newbie like me not feel so alone in this.

Yup, I'm a webguy addict, now too. Is there a recovery club for this? Some 4400 photos just yesterday. Wow, a lot to go through. We got 6-8 good photos of DS, so we're happy. No big emotions here. DS knew what was coming, and it's pretty much what we expect so far.

Speaking of shirts. By far, this is my favorite shirt I saw for the day. I'd say this young man either has a lot of nerve, or just oblivious of the 'attention' to come. Enjoy!

The following is from the WebGuy's blog. Hopefully there isn't a problem cross-posting this information. Sounds as though our cadets didn't get much sleep last night, and if I understand correctly they have a 1 1/2 mile run today to determine which running group they will be assigned. I'm sure they will sleep soundly tonight.

    "Good Morning!
How did you sleep? The Basic Cadets were up VERY early this morning. The got a pleasant wake-up from their cadre at 0430. They've had breakfast and now they are learning how to stand at attention, parade rest and salute in preparation for the swearing in ceremony at 0830.
We already have 2 photographers in the field and we are about to deploy three more so we will have a lot of pictures of the ceremony for your viewing pleasure. You will be amazed by their transformation from high school kids to professional military members!
    Stay tuned for more!"

Friday Facebook Fun Fact: There were 12,713 applicants for the Class of 2015 with 1,159 of them earning appointments. This included 10 turnbacks (cadets who can't attend this year and will maintain a slot for next year) and nine international students. As of this morning, there are 1,138 basic cadets with three in our transition flight (going home).

    http://www.facebook.com/USAFA.Official

Anyone understand the math on this?
    1159 -10 turnbacks = 1149
    1149 - 3 (going home) = 1146
Currently there are 1138 cadets (not sure if that includes the 3 going home)
Does this mean that 1159 accepted their appointments but only 1148 (including the 10 turnbacks) actually showed up on I-Day?

    That would be my guess.

Maybe that poor Basic is wearing a NAVY t-shirt?

Whether it's something he was wearing or something he did.....he has certainly attracted more attention than he probably wanted.

I hope he's not one of the 3 already in the K-squad

Being today is Friday, the 2nd day of BCT, realize that those "10 Turnbacks" ONLY MAINTAIN A SLOT FOR NEXT YEAR.... IF, they made it through the oath ceremony. I.e. If yesterday, a basic trainee got on the bus at the AOG, got the cadet area, was standing in formation and slipped and broke his leg, they would have to apply next year just like everyone else. If he broke his leg today or any time after taking the oath, then yes, they maintain their slot for next year. Assuming the condition that forced them to leave this year was corrected.

Help me understand these numbers. So what I'm reading is that 11 people accepted appointments and then what? Got cold feet? Got lost in the airport? Took the wrong flight? Got sick? Decided to live in their mother's basement instead?
