... so today the Israeli Government ordered 1.1 million noncombatants civilians to evacuate Gaza. This could get interesting really quickly. Using a college football quote from Coach Kiffen before Ole Miss' game at Alabama in 2021, "Get ready." I'm sure the U.S. spec ops community in the vicinity of Gaza have already dusted their lessons summary reports from the "Siege of Marawi" in the Mindanao Island located in Southern Philippines. Since the start of the GWOT, the U.S. has assets already in the Sulu Archipelago, Joint Special Operations Area (JSOA), fighting the Abu Sayaf. The Siege, 23May-23October 2017, was mostly hellishly fought by the Philippine Army's elite 1st Scout Ranger Regiment with advisors from the U.S. including the 1st SF Group, SEALS, SWCC, and Marine Raiders. Marawi is a similar set-up like Gaza but only differs in population - 207,000 vs 2,000,000+. There are underground tunnels and prepositioned avenues of approach loaded with IEDs as well as snipers' nests. The Rangers resorted to the "tunnel rat" (lessons learned from the Vietnam War) underground tactics. The U.S. teams provided Intel data and advice. If we follow this war plan, the Siege of Marawi, could be problematic because the Hamas, especially the core leadership, will blend in with the evacuating civilians. There's no foolproof method in stoping their escape. The only way you can stop the Hamas from escaping is to conduct a "TSA security" type checks at the border crossings. So the IDF needs to have photos of all HIgh Value Targets (HVT). With the POTUS pledging support to Israel, the IDF can really use assistance from U.S. Spec Ops even if just providing equipment with AI capabilities in identifying HVT targets. Again, "Get ready."

For those of us on this forum with loved ones in special ops, we will not be eating popcorn. My DS was one of those Marine Raiders in the Philippines. Now he is possibly going to be facing Hamas. Not a football game. We would appreciate prayers over popcorn.

MARSOC?

The latest I heard on tv is that US troops inc spec ops troops in advisory role only not to be deployed Into the field. The current plan anyway.

You got ‘em. For all in the U.S. military who go in harm’s way.

Something to keep in mind, those who have been there and done that, often use dark humor among themselves and the mil-vet community, to provide the necessary mental distance to cope with the images/memories of past experiences and what they know can happen in the fog of war.

It happens in the medical, law enforcement and fire-fighting fields too. My best college friend was a trauma specialist in an ER before she turned to sports medicine, and she married a prior Navy corpsman who was the ER head nurse - their jokes and comments were simply appalling on first hearing, but again, it’s a coping mechanism to be able to compartmentalize and do their jobs. Very unsettling to hear. You would think they didn’t care. But they do, deeply and personally. Both are two of the most compassionate, dedicated people I know.

Military humor, often in the form of grim flippancy, is a time-honored way of dealing with indescribable things. I once heard a former Vietnam POW start his remarks with “Now let me tell you a few things that happened during my unplanned shore duty tour in Hanoi.”

These comments are just offered as context. No one will be eating popcorn. I will tell you tears, usually private ones, will be shed over brothers and sisters in arms - most AD, Reserve, Guard and veterans feel a loss, no matter how far removed they are from it.

There is a big difference between gallows humor and "Let's get it on!"--particularly in regards to moving 1 million tired hungry people out of their homes. To where? Ten miles south where there are already 1,000,000+ tired hungry people with no place to go?

So many prayers to go around but, rest assured, you and your family are in mine.

The parents and loved ones worry. So many of the young warriors in training , including at SAs, hope their training is cut short and they are deployed.

I would bet it’s been this way since forever.

This is worth a quick look.nPosted on a different thread.

It’s a survey done by the Washington Institute on attitudes and it appears they have a long history of doing surveys in Gaza and the Middle East.. It’s a recent July survey of attitudes for those who live in Gaza.

57% have a “somewhat” positive view of Hamas (Hamas is after all a major provider of services)

Thus 43% do not have a “somewhat” positive view of Hamas.

62% were opposed to Hamas breaking the cease fire which was done prior to this recent attack

50% believe that Israel has a right to exist. They favor a two state solution.

in general for Arab countries Hamas has been steadying losing popularity

All done obviously before last week.

Its not what I expected to see.

... so just a quick update here. The media reported that the 1.1 million noncombatants will simply move to the South of Gaza by all means using cars, buses, and "donkey carts." So the 2 million+ civilians will now reside in Southern Gaza. At first I thought there's an escape route to Egypt. So with humanitarian corridors shut off (water, goods, medicine supplies) and electricity cut off, this is now a question of when will catastrophic human disaster happen. I just hope that the high ranking officials (UN, Dept of State, IDF, Red Cross, Military Attaches) were awake during their college world history class. The Holodomor, a man-made famine engineered by Stalin in 1932, killed 5 million Ukrainians, most were villagers and Farmers. If we allow this to happen, then the bloodshed continues to time immemorial because the descendants will remember this as their "GAZADOMOR."

According to reports I have seen, Egypt closed its border. Hamas took hostages and bombed the 2 entrances.

Hamas wants the civilians as shields.

... ok then, get ready to update Wikipedia... add "GAZADOMOR."

Does is really have to be in ALL CAPS, or can we just use regular writing mechanics?

Giving facts on the ground as you described them, against the backdrop of unqualified stated US financial and military support for the operation, are you still ready
To end this madness in 24 hours, have Delta and the 75th Ranger Regiment conduct a vertical insertion in Gaza Strip to conduct direct actions and hostage rescue. SEAL Team 3 conduct amphibious insertion to block escape routes and secure high-value targets (HVT). 5th Special Forces Group follow on the next day to conduct Civil Military Operations (CMO) along with Civil Affairs (CA) / Psychological Operations (PSYOPS) Groups

praying for everyone involved

... execute the mission today?

No. The element of surprise is kaput. My initial assessment is in the assumption that this is a
U.S.-led Joint Task Force (JTF) ordered by the POTUS. Assuming that the Delta/Rangers suffered 50% casualties in the first 24 hours, the famed 82nd Airborne Division is in the tarmac ready to deploy for follow-on operations in support of the initial insertion.

Here a snippet of another poll from 2013. I wonder what has changed since then?

According to a 2013 Pew Poll of Palestinians:

89% believe in Sharia Law should be the law of the land.
75% support sharia courts deciding issues.
40% (the highest in the world) support suicide bombing.
