LDAC 2014

DS received his assignments yesterday - 1st Reg @ Knox and CTLT @ Sill. He is thrilled - mainly to see Sill and the fact he'll be home for his birthday this year(oh, and he's turning 21:rolleyes:).

Sill, I was stationed there as my first duty station. Not much to see unless you go to OKC. Lawton, OK not so great. I couldn't wait for wheels up to PCS from Sill to Fort Lewis. Now Fort Lewis, that was an awesome duty station.

Has it really been three years, how time flys.

Yep, its been 3 years(seems like lifetimes....) DS is leaning toward field artillery as his #1 pick so figured he'd better check out Sill... I'll let him know there just may not be a lot to see:wink:

Guess the dates for LDAC are still being determined? Still waiting to hear my DS's date for LDAC and hopefully CTLT.

Did you ever eat at Meers? My husband was obsessed with that place when we were stationed at Ft Sill. My boys loved seeing the buffalo and prairie dogs. I remember our time there very fondly :) Loved long weekends in Dallas/Ft Worth. Much preferred the weather there to Washington, where we are now!

I never ate at Meers, I hated the wind in OK, in the field so cold and wind just trying to destroy you! Yeah if you had time to drive to bigger cities it wasn't bad. That mall in Lawton is top of the line though right lol. My wife strongly disliked the weather in WA, we're from Florida. So she couldn't stand the no sunshine! There is so much to do in WA and it has a lot of nice places to live. Federal Way was a bit of a drive but we loved our house there. I commission in May and after IBOLC out next duty station is Hawaii so I'm pretty happy with that!!

DS just phoned with his summer schedule:

Air Assault June 20 - July 3 at Benning
LDAC July 6 - Aug 4
CTLT Aug 4 - Aug 22 (parts unknown at this time)
He then will fly home, pack for school and leave as school starts before he gets back from CTLT.

He was offered an airborne slot also but opted for the CTLT. His school only has 2 airborne and 2 air assault slots so he wanted someone else to get the chance to attend a school.

He is ECP on scholarship so he is doing SMP also. His guard unit has AT May 28 - June14, but he does not have to do it. He will train for Air Assault instead. If he had done it also he would have had 9 days off this summer.

I told him that no matter how proud I am of him, he should be proud of himself for the hardwork and accomplishments he has made in the past 9 months.

That goes for everyone's sons and daughters that are making this journey and giving it 100%.

That's a humdinger of a schedule, even without the guard AT. Really remarkable when you consider he was at CLT seems like just yesterday.

Will he come home between Air Assault and LDAC?

I'm thinking he will, probably to sleep:) from what i understand about Air Assault School

At this point his head is kind of spinning. They have spring FTX next weekend then have the pft for Air Assault and Airborne in April. On top of his class work and reports that are do.

At 19 there is no way I could do what he is doing.

Wrapping my brain around LDAC for the last year or so. Can you set me straight please? Here's what I have figured out so far.

In the past, an acceptable nickname for "LDAC" was "Warrior Forge" because that's where LDAC was held. Is there a new nickname for LDAC now that it's been moved to Ft. Knox? I mean, we can't refer to LDAC as "Warrior Forge" anymore, right? Are we stuck just calling it LDAC for now?

In the past, there was a "Warrior Forge" website with lots of pictures and info about LDAC, making it somewhat easy to follow along. (http://warriorforge2013.wordpress.com/) Do you guys think there might be an LDAC 2014 website this summer? Was that run by Army ROTC public affairs people, or Warrior Forge people? Just wondering if we can expect a similar organization outline for basic planning info, news and pictures. Thoughts?

Thank you for all your help in this thread!

LDAC and Warrior Forge are interchangeable names (and Warrior Forge isn't a nickname). Warrior Forge doesn't refer to JBLM, and you'll hear and use both terms while there. LDAC is called Operation Warrior Forge by CC a lot.

Unless they decide to rename it, I'm pretty sure it is still going to be Warrior Forge.

That website is run by LDAC staff, yes.

I had it pretty much all wrong. THANK YOU for setting me straight.

LDAC/WarriorForge

I wrote to the PAO at Ft. Knox about the LDAC 2014 Facebook page and the WarriorForge blog. They said both will be posted in May and to check back then.

My son went through LDAC in 2010 and the PAO office at Lewis-McChord did a great job of keeping everyone informed. Hopefully the office at Ft Knox will carry on that tradition.

Everything really depends on the PAO staff from year to year. Most of the PAO types are just local college kids who wanted a summer job so there isn't a lot of continuity from years past to now. Constant revolving door....

The briefing

Bull. Is there a way I can get the actual briefing? You know it's great to actually see.

You can message me for my email.

I'm trying to get ahead of the curve here and a planner's presentation would work wonders.

Here's hoping that if you guys see a LDAC 2014 FB page pop up, you'll post about it here.

:popcorn1:

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!!

I don't have it on digits anymore, but I have seen it floating around on google, so if you search something related I think you'll be able to track it down. If you're attending LDAC this summer and just now wanting to see these slides, you won't be ahead of the curve. Best of luck to you...

I know there was a thread recently about LDAC graduation (and whether or not it's something parents might consider attending) but I can't find it. Help me find it please? Thank you!

I'm not sure where it's drifted too either.

Basically, if it is something you are wanting to attend and are able to, go for it. If you are traveling cross-country just for the ceremony and expecting a grand ceremony and festival, you will be disappointed. I told my parents not to come, and we instead took a vacation later in the summer. I've seen parents turn the ldac graduation into a vacation by coming and picking up their cadet and then continuing on to a vacation in the area, but overall very few parents come. If you live near Fort Knox, I would say it could be something you may want to attend. Also, if your cadet is an end of camp commissionee, you should definitely attend.

The ceremony means very little to the cadets not commissioning and most don't mind one bit if their parents don't come, they're just ready to get out of there. And unless you're taking your cadet with you, as soon as it's over, they head straight to the airport. I believe they are adding a family day, or part of a day, into ldac this year, so that could influence your decision.

Hope this helps. Some parents don't like this answer, but it is the opinion of myself and many of the cadets who have been through an LDAC graduation. It's only a month long, and I personally wouldn't care if they even had a graduation for it.
