I went on TDY to the Academy a few months ago as an Airman, and this is what they told me.
Last year they informed their enlisted Airmen of their acceptance in January. A handful of them ended up either slacking off work or got into trouble of some sort and had their appointments taken away. This year they decided to wait until March/April/May so this issue doesn't happen again.
I can't remember which SNCO or Officer told me this, I just remember hearing it. And it makes sense.
Dagger I was at the DVP visit back in september as well. When I was out there one of the Lts told me that if we were out there for the DVP that we'd have a slot there next year.

Hi Steve,
any updates on LEAD appointments? i.e., are you aware of any LEAD applicants that have been notified? I have read that none will be notified until mid-March (or later) this year, with various reasons given, but my DS was told he should hear in February. Was he possibly misinformed?
Rob, I have read that last year (class of '15) was the first time all the available LEAD slots were filled (85 AD/85 Res-NG). Word is the CSAF is pushing the program and they are expecting over 200 applicants and plan to fill all slots again for the Class of 2016. Can anyone with direct knowledge corroborate, please?I wonder if a bunch of Airmen applied this year and how competitive the applications are looking. I'm finished w/ the KIT and all that good stuff, just waiting for the go/no-go. Waaaaay too impatient right now LOL

Honestly as long as you are willing to put down that you would be willing to go to the prep school, and are young enough to do so, you should be in a good position to get to the hill.
I know competition has picked up a lot since my commander put in my package (I'm a p-schooler now in 2013), but keep your chins up and be patient. Before you know it that letter will come in and your name will be called at the next hail and farewell.
I posted this on the US Air Force Academy (Admissions) Facebook page:Have any active duty/guard or reserve airmen received an appointment yet?

Any word on when LEAD applicants might begin to be notified? I know several regular applicants with principal nominations have been offered appointments already, but I understand the LEAD applicants have a separate Board?
Here is the response:
...the majority of LEAD applicants will hear back after March 1st.
This is about as straight from the horse's mouth as I can come up with. Looks like we all have a long wait ahead of us.
