March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

saw those 3 to 3.5 upgrades a few years ago. The year I only got 1 scholarship out of the national process, by the end of the first year most of my 3 year AD winners were upgraded. Funny how history repeats itself, but we shall see.

A question that Clarkson has to have the answer for

Hello Sir. As the foremost expert on Army ROTC, and I mean that in all sincerity, I have a question for you. My DS recieved a 4 year to very pricey private school. We love that!! Catch 22 is that he is waitlisted for admission. We spoke with ROO at that school and he is pretty optimistic about prospect with admissions on his end. We will not know until after May 1st. In the meantime, my DS would attend another private school which he has been admitted to and was his #3 if given the opportunity to transfer the scholarship. He loves both schools and would be honored to attend and participate in either ROTC program. So what if DS does not clear waitlist at the school he was awarded, and starts the transfer process. The other private school is in the same brigade... Is there a formula that Cadet Command uses that allocates the number of 4 year offers at schools that may interfere with a transfer? I guess the question I am asking, within the brigade do you believe there will be any hic-cups if he tries to transfer.. By the way, the school he would transfer to is slightly less tuition-wise than the one which was awarded. Waddya think?

The "Fat Lady" Might Still Have a Few Encores!

First, like others, new as a user to SAF but have been reading this and other threads for quite some time. Thanks to all for their insights and support!

As far as the March 8 Board, things might not be over yet. DS emailed ROO at #1 choice on Monday to arrange a time to discuss Plan B. Turns out it was back to Plan A. Status changed yesterday on CC's site and DS was awarded a 3 year AD. OOS with tuition more than 2x #2 and #3 choices. Maybe CC is still in the process of getting things done with scholarships awarded but turned down.

Hope and pray good news comes for those still waiting.

Talk about an Easter Award! Not quite a bodily resurrection but certainly amazing.

First, welcome! and then CONGRATS to your DS!!!!

A couple highly qualified posters on this board got 3 yr AD scholarships, and their PMS told them if CC can "scrape together" the funds that they would be upgraded to a 3.5 AD yr scholarship - if funds were available this fall.

We were told the same thing by our sons PMS just this week. He said it looks pretty good that a lot of the 3 year AD's could be upgraded. He also stressed that the biggest determining factor for the income freshmen is the PT test.........so get out there and get moving people!

Does anyone know if the applicant's online status will change on the website after Cadet Command has received and processed their scholarship acceptance? Son communicated with his USACC Brigade POC, who told him that the system did not yet reflect receipt of his acceptance. Will we be able to tell online once it has been processed? Thanks

Emailed acceptance on Saturday and status changed on Monday showing award accepted and school listed. (Other school offered disappeared.)

Update on process

Emailed acceptance on Saturday and status changed on Monday showing award accepted and school listed. (Other school offered disappeared.)

Sent transfer request on Saturday and heard verdict on Wednesday. Request was between brigades; CC agreed to transfer 4 year IS public to 3 yr AD at private.

To add to the collective knowledge. My son listed 5 schools on his scholarship application.
#1- Ivy
#2-Private top 20
#3-In-state "public ivy"
#4-OOS (Texas A&M)
#5-In-State Flagship.

Son received a 4 year scholarship to school #5. Son was accepted into every school except #2. Son decided to attend school #1.

Son requested a transfer of scholarship on Sat April 24th via email with documents and letter requesting transfer attached. Son received 4-year scholarship to School #1 on Thursday April 28th.

We were very excited and happy. We were hoping for at least a 3-year scholarship because of the $$ difference. Son had already decided to attend #1 with or without scholarship and participate in ROTC and would try and earn a scholarship on campus.

So my recommendation to everyone is ask for what you want, but have a back-up plan that will work in case the transfer doesn't work. That's what we did and luckily he was able to obtain the transfer!

Good luck to everyone!

just got a scholarship TODAY!!! 3years + the university is paying tuition room and board for 1st year. I guess it STILL isn't over.

It was actually from brigade (for those who don't know, battalions which are the campus based units, make up brigades, which make up cadet command) the brigade gave me three years of room, board, tuition, study abroad money, etc., and my officer at the university got me money from the school to pay freshman year expenses. So essentially i have a full ride! I can't remember being this happy in like...ever! Being in the military has been my dream since I dressed up in my dad's fatigues for halloween when i was in like second grade. An awesome education in the field of study I've loved since my freshman year of high school is just the cherry on top of the cake. All my hard work in high school has finally paid off and college is now going to be so amazingly awesome! I can't wait to start ROTC and I just know the Military Science classes are going to be the highlight of my day. I was about to give up hope, but it turns out I got a scholarship even better than what i was hoping for! God closed a window for me, but opened two golden doors.

So glad your campus based scholarship(brigade or battalion based) worked out. Many brigades will be announcing scholarships soon so some others who are waiting for plans B & C & D might have good news later this month(or over the summer even:smile:). Never give up on the dream, even when those other hurdles jump out in front of you later on, they will, but you've learned an important lesson -- you can get thru it. Best of luck!

I was reading your post again, I am thrilled that everything has worked out for you, it's nice to see hard work pay off.

I have a question.

Having 2 son's go through the process now I haven't heard of a brigade scholarship that offers both Tuition and Room and Board. Usually the R&B is something the college offer, mainly the private colleges. I have read that some batallions offer merit scholarships to cadets for room and board. Did the total package of tuition and R&B come from the brigade. My son has discussed Study Abroad with his new cadre, the explained that the Army will pay the value of the cost of the tuition per semester toward the study abroad. They also stated that this tends to favor the out of state kids who's tuition is higher though they said they try to come up with the extra funds for the in state kids.

Is the school you are attending a private or public school.

I am in no way second guessing what you have received, I was just wondering how it all worked. You have an incrediible opportunity and it was fun to read your excitement, you should be very proud and i wish you the best of luck.

Sry haven't been on in awhile. But yeah a major at my school got me 4yrs tuition from brigade and I'm doing army reserves which will pay for room & board on top of giving me a monthly stipend, plus I'll also have my ROTC monthly stipend. Also, as far as studying abroad, I'm a foreign language major so it's kind of part of my tuition as far as they're concerned because your language skills are much better when you spend time in that country. I also think I maybe got a brigade scholarship because they saw my foreign languages and on my application I checked that I'd agree to learn a language the military needs (they give you a list).
