March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

Again, you may find the DoDMERB Forum on this website to be of value, so I would recommend that you check it out. Mr. Mullen's email is Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil. I believe he requests that you include your full name and last 4 of your SSN in your email inquiry. Hope it works out for you.

You can also call DODMERB. I believe that they are trying to move away from everyone emailing Mr. Mullen and towards using the other staff. If your DD/DS is under 18 they will talk to the parent. Otherwise your child will have to call. (There is a release form your child can sign and fax in that will allow DODMERB to talk to parents).
Here is the number - 800-841-2706.
Mr Mullen and everyone who we've talked to at DODMERB has been extremely helpful - and believe me because we were on the DODMERB roller coaster for quite a long time!

NOTE:
We're sorry your application hasn't been added to the DoDMerb system, Please check back

This is the message I was greeted with after logging in to the tricare website. Well. I hope that is an error or else I am up the creek for sure.

It seems DodMERB has really dropped the ball with a few of our DS/DD's. My DS's page, now that we can finally log in, states that he needed to obtain a FALANT test in order to get a waiver for the USNA/NROTC. Unfortunately we could not see this due to the website being down and they did not send a written notification. Since then he has been officially turned down by both and now has no way of knowing if he would have gotten the waiver and subsequent USNA addmission or NROTC Scholarship:unhappy:. I guess this is what we get for having to rely on the government to do the right thing in a timely manner when they are met with a situation that would require them to think outside the box:mad:.

I know this isn't the DoDMERB thread, but my status also changed on the Tricare website.

To ProudCitadelDad, I can't speak for everyone else but the only reason I received a packet from Concorde(DoDMETS) so early was because I also applied to West Point. I completed my physical exam way back in October for USMA, and DoDMERB is just using the same info. for the ROTC evaluation which I imagine is the same. Had I not applied to West Point, I don't know if I would have received the packet yet.

To OhioStateDad, I feel terrible for you and your DS. It's just not right for a technical error on the part of DoDMERB to change someone's life so drastically. Hopefully, if you raise enough hell, they'll grant you an extension.

ProudCitadelDad, my DD has not received a packet either. When I saw people referring to the web site a while back, I tried to log in with my DD's social and nothing came up. When I tried it this morning it came up with all her info filled in and referred to Army ROTC. Still don't know if that means anything or not. Good luck!

I hate to bring up the Elephant in the room but....

I certainly hope, that the good chance that the Government will shut down after the Friday deadline, will not have any impact on releasing the scholarship information.

Lets just hope that they have already funded the scholarships prior to releasing the names of the winners.

The Government really Sucks sometimes, wait, I mean Politicians.

Good luck everyone.

anyone else having problems?

No, DODMETS is primarily involved in setting up your physical. After it is completed, you check your status through the DoDMERB site. Try https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil

I have been trying to access this site but I keep getting an error:
" Invalid Server Certificate
A request failed because the server's certificate was invalid."

anyone else having the problem?

Does it come up saying this?(see below). If so, you need to click on where it says: 'continue to this website (not recommended), it will take you to a page where is asks you to 'accept/decline', from there it should take you to the site. It takes a few seconds to upload. Good Luck. It worked for me.

I'm hoping this will make you feel better - my understanding is that the waiver isn't even attempted to be requested for USNA until after it is determined that the candidate is eligible to receive an appointment. Similarly, many NROTC candidates (those who are not applying for an SA as well) don't even have the Dodmerb exam requested until after they are awarded the scholarship.

My son is in a similar circumstance. He was injured in Dec and Dodmerb is requiring a follow up test to be done, not earlier than May. We called Dodmerb/Mr. Mullen several times ourselves in order to find out that this test was needed - we also received nothing about it in the mail (or any other method of communication) until the third time we were told it would be mailed out to us after calling. However, in the meantime, his files are on hold.

But...he did receive a conditional appointment to USAFA in the meantime (saying that as long as the Dodmerb was cleared up he would get the appointment). He had the USNA appointment before the injury, and they have told us they will wait until he can have the testing done and hold the appointment until that point. He also has a NROTC scholarship which he was worried about losing but they also assured him it would be held until he had an answer. From the emails that are coming out from his NROTC unit, many, many candidates still haven't done Dodmerb at ALL since the theme of the emails seems to be "Get it scheduled NOW - it needs to be done or you can't participate in August". So he's really not behind the power curve there at all, and in theory it shouldn't have affected his chances at that scholarship.

I would think that if USAFA would issue a conditional appointment, that USNA could do the same thing. That said, I know that USMA doesn't so I can't say for certain it didn't have an effect there. It would certainly be worth asking USNA - or even better, if you could, have your MOC (whoever nominated him) send an inquiry to ask if there's any way he could still be considered due to the (government's) mixup, if that was in fact the case.

Good luck!

I had the same maddening problem. I went to this site http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/announcements/dodrootcertificates.html and from there it gives instructions on how to download the proper permissions and certificate authorities. Once I downloaded the certificate authorities, it made navigating to the site much much quicker. I still get the warning page, but can click through it with no wait.

Hopefully, that helps you. :)

Yep, can't get to the site, either!!!

This is a browser problem, usually caused by a certificate that says .GOV and the site says .MIL (or something like that)

Try using Firefox, you should get a screen that asks you to approve a certificate exception, approve that and after that you should have no more problems.

Correction, got to the DodMerb site. It just took many long minutes to load!
Here's what it said:Agency: US Army ROTC
Cycle Year:2010
Current Medical Status:Qualified

Not sure if this is good news, or indifferent, as we already had confirmation of this. It's just nice to see the site up and running.

Why can't I log onto DoDMERB? It keeps on telling me my password is invalid and when I try to use "Forgot password" it tells me "We were unable to access your information. Please try again." What is this? This is ludicrous. I simply want to check if Army ROTC was added as an agency on my account and I can't even do that without trouble.

Has it worked for you since the website came back up a couple of weeks ago? If this is the first time you have been back on, you need to create a new user account/password. Your old one may not be recognized.

Well, I re-created a log in account two nights ago and I had no trouble then. Now, the website won't let me on. Apparently, I have the wrong password and when I try to create a new password, I get "We were unable to access your information. Please try again." and when I try to create a new account, it tells me that my account has already been created. This is terrible.

So just to clarify, we are looking for the results to come out next week, right?

My DS has never had a DoDMERB status before - the March board was the only one he met. Today he was able to create a login on DoDMERB and, like many others, it lists Army ROTC as the agency and status as testing, so hopefully good news is on its way...
