March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

Woke up to find an email from our ROO. He believes some more offers shall be posted today. Letters are supposed to be mailed out tomorrow.

DS has his DoDMERB medical exam this a.m. Hope to see a status change when we return!!

I'm ready for some action. Good luck everybody!!

Good luck everyone for today, my son and I will be thinking of you. Niko's mom, hope the medical goes well, it's just like his yearly check-up but in a different place.

Wish I had some better news

I dont like being the one to bring this news, however, I just got off phone with CC. Im told that all the offers have been posted. They Double checked the master list for DS and there is nothing for him. Also was told that there may be a few more offers tomorrow.....Always keep you hanging. So basically its over, but then again its not over. Go figure. I wish you and your DS's and DS's the best. Im turning off my computer for the day and go lay in the fetal position.. Love you all. Good morning all! Can't believe we are here yet again...we need some updates and get some kiddos moving on down the college decision pipeline!!! Will be hanging out with you all day, unless work needs me this afternoon.

Just saw KevDawg's post. That changes my plans for the day as well.

Son, if you get on here today at school and see this - DO NOT FREAK OUT. You have guaranteed you'll reach your goals by your own hard work and heart. The plans are in place for this circumstance and no one can keep you from achieving the end goal, commission.

To all of you, like me dealing with the first moments of this unpleasant news, the sun will still come up tomorrow, the day will go on and we will all be okay. Plans may change, hearts might break, but the end doesn't have to be the end of the dream all of our children have that brought us here to this forum. The boards may have met, racked and stacked them, but as parents we know what they are really made of and can only continue to love and encourage them. Its our job.

Take care. Back soon.

For those of you getting your schools posted, there is a great thread about transfers going on too. It has some strong information including a link provided by Clarkson.

So glad so many are getting multiple schools and seeing a lot of #1 choices --so proud to have known you "when" and wish you the absolute best on your continued journey to 2LT!

final thought before i leave today

Ohio2015Parent.. One final thought before i shut down for the day. I have been following your story. You are a great parent and I am sure you son is a reflection of you. I was rooting for your son the most throughout the last few days. If anyone needs or deserves good fortune, it is your family. If indeed there are a few more offers tomorrow, I pray (and I dont do it often enough) that one of these offers will have your sons name on it. Let it be a Wednesday miracle for your family.

Amen to that!

Thanks for your encouragement on a difficult day.

Just received an email from the ROO at my #1 school. He said that there are only 6 people typing in approximately 950 offers and said it will take probably up until Wednesday evening. Just a little heads up for the rest of us who havent received an offer. Hopefully something comes in soon.

And for those who have already been notified.. Congrats!

Thank you for the kind thoughts and words. This experience has been life changing in a way for me as well as my DS. Whether we get a miracle or not, my son will get where he needs to go.

Many of us are facing difficult times and have our own crosses to bear. I have just been a little bit more open about what goes on in my family. This has been the longest winter ever, but the continued support here has made a huge difference. Paradoxer, Patentesq, Pima, Jcleppe, Bjkuds, KSmom and so many others, including you(I'll never eat a thin mint again w/o a smile for you) have been my angels. I wouldn't know anyone of you in the real world - the beauty of the internet brought us all here. It is so bittersweet today.

Wishing all of us some peace.

I know for some these next few days will be turbulent emotionally, but I wanted to post this to add onto Ohio's POV.

Granted this poster is an AFROTC cadet, however, read it, and I hope you walk away with the fact that Ohio is correct, 1 part of the dream may have ended, but the dream is still going if they choose to follow it.

It has been forever since I have been on this forum, but a lot has happened in my life pertaining to the USAF recently and I wanted to share it with you all.

Please realize that my intention of sharing my story is to inspire those who dont get picked up by the USAFA for whatever reason. I by no means think I am any better or worse than a USAFA cadet because I went ROTC.

So just a brief history:

* I joined ROTC
* Then applied for USAFA with my DETs nomination Freshman year
* Was waitlisted by USAFA and never picked up
* Graduated ROTC Feild Training - summer 2010
* Selected as a AFCEA Scholarship winner to go on week long tour summer 2011 shadowing Gen. Gary North at PACAF

That brings me to where I am now... As A junior I was just notified that I was selected for rated pilot categorization! So all I have to do now is graduate and I will be off to Pilot Training!!!

NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS! I was told by the USAFA I wasnt good enough. Instead of quitting this motivated me that much more to be the best and prove them wrong. There are multiple paths to success.

If you read his 1st post, he found out about ROTC scholarship in hs, but after the deadline. Thus, this kid joined ROTC, he was not a scholarship recipient.

Getting a scholarship or not getting one will not impact how you are perceived by the unit. It is not going to matter one iota when you are up for promotion to major whether you were scholarship or not, it will be all about you and what you have accomplished as an officer.

The same can be said as a cadet. Scholarship is not going to guarantee you a job in the cadre, it is not going to guarantee your career field. It was you do as a student and a cadet that will determine your path.

Good luck to all. Trust me as a wife of a now ret. AF officer, we saw AFA and AFROTC officers not get fighters while OCS candidates did. We saw ROTC officers get promoted while AFA officers didn't. The path is what you do to clear it that only matters.
