I know that it is for certain occupation and I know that I don't have a complete choice in my MOS but at the same time, I don't think the Army would put someone who isn't good at math into idk an accounting role.

You are missing the point, math and science is a big player in many fields. Want to fly? Math and science plays into the equation.

Want to be in tanks? Math and science plays into the equation...coordinates.

Want to be a Ranger? Math and science plays into the equation...compasses, moonlight, wind when you jump, etc.

Communications...science

Maintenance

Weather

Logistics/Acquisition/Requirements

Math and science unless you are a JAG, Public Affairs or Mission Support is going to have math and science in your life. Different aspects regarding the requirements, but it will be there every day of your life as a newly minted officer. Higher up when you get command there will be less need of academics and more in leadership. However, you can't lead higher up if you can't perform at the lower level.

Heck even Personnel must use math when they do strategic planning for future requirements.

I understand where you are coming from, some levels will require less math/science than other fields, but it will exist. Even for college as a govt major you will be required by the college to take math and science in order to graduate. It is not as if you can go non-tech and the school will let you graduate without these courses.

Hi All,

I bit the bullet and called our ROO. DS is not on the list. Our ROO said he saw the most activity on Thursday and Friday with a few yesterday and one today for our school. He said there could possibly be a few more but it's not looking good. He said that I could call him back on Friday to see if by chance my DS was selected.

It has been fun waiting it out with you all.

Congratulations to everyone including those of us who weren't awarded. We will find a way!

If anything changes I will update.

You are brave

I'm not sure I could've done that.

:frown: Sorry Niko'smom. Hopefully a miracle happens or your DS has a plan B. I told DS a long time ago that it was a long shot, but one worth taking. My words to him are ringing true and it stinks. They are great kids and there are options.:thumb:
Please do!

Why are statuses not being updated? People who have recently posted said that their status changed to "we are sorry but you did not receive a scholarship.... "something like that. What does it mean for people whose statuses have not changed?

10000 scholarship applications and 4 people processing all the apps/offers/phone calls/emails/days off/holidays/weekends. It's a miracle this process even happens each year. Make sure to thank your POC at Cadet Command when this is all over.

I have been wondering the same thing. I would like to thank the CC app status site for pounding my social security number in my head. I don't think I will ever forget it. :hammer:

I just wanted to post a few of my opinions on how to improve this whole process. For one, there were many people who like me were completely finished with their application and board ready by mid July. Yet they wait until April and get nothing. I just feel like they showed their dedication to ROTC by getting everything in early and yet got no reward.

Also I think CC's requirements focus too much on grades. It's no secret that some of the best soldiers are not "book smart". Most of the education you learn during ROTC is new material and not taught during high school. So why is it then that your high school GPA is so heavily weighed? I'm not saying that people almost failing should be granted scholarships, but I believe they should go into more depths of the students high school grades. For example I ended up having a 3.3 through my first 3 years. If you look at my actual grades the class that is keeping it down is math. The main reason its low is because I am not interested in math, and I'm not scared to say so. However if you look at my history and english grades (Which I believe are more useful in the Army anyways), they are fantastic because I find that more interesting. Not to mention if they had requested grades from my senior year my GPA would have risen to around a 3.6 because I am enrolled in classes I enjoy learning about and my grades reflect that. Obviously ROTC interests me so my grades will be higher. Also why is it that colleges and university's across the country are slowly phasing SAT and ACT scores out of requirements because they realize they are not true indicators of how smart a student really is, yet CC still requires high scores in order to receive a scholarship? I understand that grades are still important, but I think CC should weigh them a little less compared to things like leadership and physical attributes. I believe that my other attributes should make me a great soldier even without stellar grades. (3 years of varsity sports, 1 year of captain, Received a leadership award for my team, in great shape, and did awesome on the interview.)

With that being said, I am still hoping for some good news today, and regardless of whether I get the scholarship or not, I will be enrolling in ROTC come the fall. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting. And I hope I didn't offend anyone with my post, these are just my opinions.

I will make this comment concerning you not doing well in math because it doesn't interest you. I'm sure the Army wants people who do well in what they are needed to do, not just what interests them. When tasked to do a job you don't want a person who could have done well at it but just didn't apply themselves because it wasn't interesting.

We have the most wonderful kids! And yes there is a plan B. He's gotten this far. Just another hurdle in life. And that's ok! What doesn't break us makes us stronger!! It's just easier when as a parent you can shield them from pain and disappointment. But we know those days have long passed!

please wait till tomorrow

I just saw KevDawgsPop's post and while I want to keep the faith it sound like pretty good information. I think I am going to sign off for now. I want thank everyone; it's been great to have this forum to keep the spirits up over these past few months. I hope all your DS's go on to do great things with there lives. For those of you who’s DS received a scholarship; congratulations & best wishes for their future. For those of us who’s DS did not, I have to believe God must have a different plan for our children, and I pray only good will come from this experience. Good luck to you all!
I’m not looking forward to telling my son the news. It will be a sad day, but he will pick himself up and move on to Plan B. He’s a great kid and I am very proud of him!!
Take care and God bless you all!

LCmom.. I believe in the unbelievable. Please wait until tommorow for news. you saw in my post that my very reliable post said that there may be a few more tomorrow... Please dont give up until it is final. With everything that happens at CC, anything can happen. They are overwhelmed right now and there have to be loose ends to tie up. Keep thinking positive thoughts.

A few questions:
A) so those who got rejected for scholarships had their online status updated to reflect that?
B)For those who did not receive scholarships...did you receive a medical packet in the mail about a week ago?
C) Are they updating in alphabetical order by state?
D) What do you THINK the absolute latest is for them to update statuses? I know this one could be subject to change for a whole variety of reasons.

Clarkson is quite right, as usual. The few people in charge of handling all of this paper work and inputting are incredible. I cannot even fathom the pressure they work under during times like this. Perhaps in a few weeks, like June, we could as a group decided to send emails to our POC simply thanking them for serving their country in such an unsual and important way. Whether they are Army or civillian this is just one more stressful job done to benefit our kids.

Oh, and since Clarkson didn't post that this is over, but when its over, those that can find the strength to believe in miracles hold tight. I think DS and I are done wishing for that miracle for us -- its all good -- but I would love for some of you to be our miracles of the March board.

My DS is one that received his DoDMERB medical packet last week, finished up all his exams this morning. As of yet he has not received a scholarship offer or seen any status update online.

Our ROO has been fantastic in keeping in touch with us. He is just as perplexed as we are that no offer has come forth since we just received packet. It used to be that getting your medical packet was a good sign and a offer of scholarship usually followed. Guess it's not the case this year.:frown:

I am in the exact same position and am hoping for a miracle. Apparently those who didn't receive scholarships are seeing their statuses changed online so I guess at this point that no news is good news. I can't get in touch with my ROO to see what's up and honestly feel bad calling. I called yesterday which is when she told me they were posting stuff as of then, so I feel bad calling her again today and bothering her. I'm just going to tough it out a bit longer.

Hang in there! We are right with you!!

Who has posted that their status page changed to say "we are sorry but you did not receive a scholarship.... " I have not seen any such posts and there have never been any posts saying that in the past.

Maybe I missed them somewhere.

I've been emailing with our ROO in the last couple of hours. He is just as anxious as we are to see offers come through...it's been pretty minimal for them so far.
He did put us in touch with the National Guard contact at the college to start working on plan C (or is it D?).

Not throwing in the towel just yet. This has been a long ride, waiting, and waiting. However, like several others here, I recognize that it is out of our hands, God has a plan and it just may not be the same as I thought it should be. :thumb:

This forum has been amazing! And truly the wait has pushed us to look at other options, to see the bigger picture and has put many things in perspective.
As I told the ROO, there is more than one path to DS's goal of commissioning and I am confident he will get there one way or another.
