March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

Just wondering....does the online status ever update to inform you if it's 3 yr or 4 yr scholarship? Or do we have to wait for the letter in the mail?

Our ROO won't tell us anything. He said unfortunatley he can't inform us of the results.

I'm still praying for all of you who still haven't heard.

Wierd scrambled name on status page.

OK, maybe it is just hope's last breath, but when I just checked status again, my DS's name - usually so nicely displayed on the top, was all scrambled w/ other letters/symbols/numbers interspersed. Never appeared like that. Maybe someone is working on it??

If not, we are going to call ROO around 2 to check in. Sad to let go of this part of dream and need to regroup and figure plan B/C/D.

Best of luck to all... still...

My ROO just said all scholarships have been posted and if your status hasn't changed you haven't received one.

God has a plan and it just may not be the same as I thought it should be.

Very well said. And exactly right. As a matter of fact, it is rarely as I think it should be. That's so that I am reminded as to who is really in control :thumb:

I'm sorry, I'm not saying I don't believe you, but other ROO's are saying there is still some scholarships available. Maybe he meant for his own school? No one will know for sure until we get an official answer.

It never did in the past.

With the recent changes they have done to the status page, they may add that as well.

We had to wait until the letters had been sent out before the ROO would let us know what type the scholarships were. The letter you receive, which should come very soon will list the types as well.

You are missing the point, math and science is a big player in many fields. Want to fly? Math and science plays into the equation.

Want to be in tanks? Math and science plays into the equation...coordinates.

Want to be a Ranger? Math and science plays into the equation...compasses, moonlight, wind when you jump, etc.

Communications...science

Maintenance

Weather

Logistics/Acquisition/Requirements

Math and science unless you are a JAG, Public Affairs or Mission Support is going to have math and science in your life. Different aspects regarding the requirements, but it will be there every day of your life as a newly minted officer. Higher up when you get command there will be less need of academics and more in leadership. However, you can't lead higher up if you can't perform at the lower level.

Heck even Personnel must use math when they do strategic planning for future requirements.

I understand where you are coming from, some levels will require less math/science than other fields, but it will exist. Even for college as a govt major you will be required by the college to take math and science in order to graduate. It is not as if you can go non-tech and the school will let you graduate without these courses.

I understand where you coming from also, but they teach you those skills. You are not expected to know how to do coordinates when you join the Army. Just saying.

Unfortunatly with the way this year has gone, you may never get an official notice that it is over. One of the reasons, it really isn't officially over. There will still be some who do not accept the scholarship, there may be funds available for campus scholarships that some schools will offer over the summer, this happened to a few last year. This is a process that could take until mid summer to finally shake out, then it starts up again in the fall with cadets competing for in school scholarships.

Best advise I can give. Keep in contact with the ROO from the school you decide to attend. If you can make another visit if the school is close by just to keep your face fresh on their minds. When you register for classes make sure you sign up for MS classes, the MS Lab, and PT. If they have extra classes like Ranger Challenge or Color Guard sign up for those as well. Do this early, it shows your ready to hit the ground running. If you live close to the school find out when they have their commissioning ceremony, ask if you can attend, they will most likely say yes. Meet the other cadets and and cadre.

My point is...make it hard for them not to offer you the campus scholarship if one is available. A lot of people will be dissapointed when it becomes clear they did not receive the scholarship. Show the cadre at the school that it did not matter, your coming ready to go no matter what, the scholarship rejection?...that was just a small speed bump.

There is an old saying, The Squeeky Wheel gets the Grease.....You want to be the loudest "Squeeky Wheel" you can be. So pick yourself up, dust yourself off and go grab what you all know you deserve.

Good luck everyone. I look forward to having you all, scholarship or not, visit my home state of Washington in 3 years when you all come to Ft. Lewis for LDAC.

Yeah I'm trying lol. Does anyone know when schools allow students to sign up for classes? I have no clue.

Last year the official, 'Sorry you didn't get a scholarship' letter didn't come until the 2nd week of June. Then an offer for a 3-yr scholarship came the end of July. So never say never...

I would imagine the website for the school you are attending should have all the registration information. Have you committed to a school yet. You should get registration information in the mail as well.

The Miracle of Tuesday Afternoon

To all of my friends on this thread. BELIEVE...... I had not checked status all day and was going to wait until tomorrow for the last few offers that CC told me would be released. My DS status changed:biggrin: He got his 2nd and 3rd choice. Not sure if 3 or 4 year, but at this point anything is a blessing. Im very emotional right now as this last year and especially this last week have left me limp. After DS getting to the Wait List at USMA and then getting rejected was very tough. As I said earlier, I do not pray often, but now I will do this for all of you out there in the same position. Praying for more Tuesday miracles and many more on Wednesday. Thank you all for being there and going through all of this with me. KevDawgsPop
PS.. DS did not get a Dodmerb packet in the mail last week as he had already been medically qualified by Dodmerb for USMA which carried over to ROTC.

Well tell the Fat Lady to sit down, shut up and stop singing.

Congratulations to your son.

CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so happy for you and your son and family. What an emotional roller coaster for you....for all of us. I also believe in the power of prayer so thank you for the prayers for the rest of us still not hearing anything. I also believe that God has big plans for each one of these young, talented persons and who am I to know what is best in the long run for my DS. Only time will tell.

When God Closes a Door, He opens a Window...I'm eager to finally get up the nerve to peek out and take in the view.
