March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

what do you think our chances are?

honestly not a clue. my ROO said they were done but a ton of others didn't. There was someone earlier who got scholarships to like three schools but I had higher stats than them in every category and haven't heard anything yet. If I don't hear anything by noon tomorrow I'm going to call a MAJ at my #1 school who seemed really eager to have me in her program and see what if anything she can do or if she has any suggestions. I heard they should be posting tomorrow though so I'm keeping fingers crossed.

Just out of curiosity, what schools did you chose? I think some might be more competitive than others. I had University of Cincinnati as my #1, Appalachian State and Ohio University. I'd be happy to get a scholarship to anywhere at this point.

got a scholarship!! just found out!!! do they happen to transfer scholarships... my number 1 school didnt offer me one even though they seemed eager but could i transfer if they approved of it?

Did they post it after hours? That's awesome, congrats! Oh, and for transfer scholarships you should probs wait just a day or two. The schools are given a certain amount of slots to fill and until all scholarships are out they don't know how many slots are left. After scholarships are out if your number one school has extra slots they might be able to transfer your scholarship. I didn't look that much into it but that's basically what I found and it seemed to fit pretty well with the info I already knew so I assume it's true. A call to their scholarship person (I think the title may vary at each school) sometime Thursday couldn't hurt. Call tomorrow even if you just want an explanation on how it works.

I can't tell either. My still is unchanged too. But apparently people are saying if they didn't get a scholarship then it says "We're sorry but blah blah blah" Did you get DoDMERB forms? I heard that's supposed to be a good sign.

No one on this forum has posted that their status stated "We're sorry but blah, blah, blah. Not for Army ROTC.
Letters get mailed out, but not until around June.

Alright... what does ROO stand for? I figure it is the recruiting officer at the ROTC unit but what does it really stand for?

Why are statuses not being updated? People who have recently posted said that their status changed to "we are sorry but you did not receive a scholarship.... "something like that. What does it mean for people whose statuses have not changed?

Try page 143. That was where I found that info but I'm not sure where they got their info from. Hang in there everyone! I'm still waiting for mine 2.

P.S. ROO stands for Recruiting Operations Officer.

A word of encouragement for those that don't get a national scholarship this month, do not give up. Prepare for college as if you will be a contracted cadet and arrive on campus fit and ready to go. Join ROTC classes, pass the PT test and get involved in extra activities.

Most schools have some in school slots and its not uncommon to see four year scholarship winners dropping out or failing the PT test the first semester. If that happens the ROO/PMS can snap up the unused scholarships and recommend you for a 4/3.5 year scholarship.

The two schools we spoke to both had several returned scholarships last fall. One had ten slots unallocated by the new year, and the other had nine slots in December and managed to get four year scholarships for five cadets just after X-mass.

My schools are
University of Arizona
University of Kansas
Appalachian State
Coastal Carolina
West Virginia University

So interesting to see so many students looking at Applachian State, we lived in NC for many yrs., and it always seemed like AROTC cadets would try for NCST 1st yet I have not seen that here.

Just interesting, back on topic.

Our DS's first choice was NC State and App State second. His choice was based on the fact that his intended major is engineering.

This is true. Many ROTC programs delay the tuition payment to the school until up to 45 days into the semester. I feel one reason they do this is to see who is going to actually go forward. It also lets you know (for the new people) how serious they are that you pass the PT test.

still waiting

Back again ...we are still hoping for a scholarship. Prayers are welcome! Thx
