March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

I saw a post on Cadet Command's facebook wall about if scholarships are done being sent out. CC responded to the question.." are the scholarships done??" and said "I know that waiting isn't fun, but you'll be the first to know if and when your scholarship application is approved ..."
Not a definite no, so I would take that as good news. I'm in the same position you're in.... Still haven't heard anything from my ROO and status hasn't changed.

More info. My DS received offers to all 4 schools on his app. 2 out of state (higher tuition) 3 year, 1 out of state (lower tuition) 4 year and 1 in state 4 year. His mind was already set before he received his scholarship and he will be attending his # 1 choice which is the out of state with the 3 year scholarship. He also has some Merit $ there so pretty much has things in order.....except for that dreaded 5th year which we are pretty sure he will need to complete his degree.

Remember, if his major is accepted by the ARMY as a 5 year degree they will extend the scholarship at least a half a year if the 104R is approved.

Good afternoon. Just finished up reading everyone's updates on schools and transfers, kind of glad this is over. SMP or 3 yr AD can be controlled by DS to an extent - funding must be available and he must decided where to put his energy. No more trying to see behind the CC curtain to see the wizard.

Wish all of you luck with theses transfers, it doesn't sound like anyone is expecting to trade a low end state school for a cadillac Ivy, so I would hope CC would make it happen.

I have checked DS's status for the last time. There is peace in just accepting their decision and moving on. Don't let what you cannot do change what you can do -- DS has done much better than I thought he might and is being pretty matter of fact about it. His mature handling of this makes it 10x easier for me to move on. So what, my baby didn't win the most beautiful baby contests either, but more than anything my babies all know you just don't quit anything you value, work hard, smarter and get it done. He is meant to lead, any group he's ever joined has seen it and put him in charge -- ROTC will be no different. I love Pima's "what do they call a 2LT with a scholarship or without? LT". So, he'll compete, and win, a campus based if they're available or he'll join Guard and SMP. It will be what its supposed to be. And it will be for all the other applicants who were denied or awarded scholarships too. Chase the dream, this is only the begining of your story. I'll be around to check up on everyone -- and I'll let you know when DS decides which option is right for him.

Go Bobcats!! Ohio University here he comes.

Sent you a PM

Question: any idea when he saw the change in status? I'm looking to see if anyone had there status changed today or if everything was over yesterday.

Jmbm posted his status change last Friday.

I do not believe anyone posted a status change today.

Someone just a few posts back posted that they had received their letter in the mail.

I believe the Fat Lady has sung.

While the offers seem to be done for this final board, don't throw in the towel just yet. Some applicants last year received phone calls from their ROO offering in school 3 year scholarships as late as July.

It may take a while for everything to shake out, but for now, I think it is over.

I swear, CC needs to get their communication sorted out. I was reading the CC Facebook page, a person asked on Friday if more updates were going to happen. This was the CC response that was given at 6:30am Friday. From what we have all been told by almost everyone is that CC does not send letters out until the updates are completed.

U.S. Army Cadet Command (ROTC) Notification is being mailed out now, online status changes may not be updated immediately.

Don't they have any idea that some of you are running out of Girl Scout Cookies while the wait goes on.

Saw this posted a few days ago. So, from what I'm getting, the truth is in the letter, not the online status b/c online isn't updating right away. Are people beginning to receive letters yet?

I wish you had better news Ohio, but here is a thought. My kid made it to the National Wait List this year for USMA and did not get in. However, his admissions officer suggested something that is a little out there to achieve admittance next year. He suggested National Guard or enlisting and trying for one of the 140 spots (which are rarely filled) reserved for enlisted soliders. DS wants college experience and thru a miracle from CC he will get that and ROTC, so he was not going to go down that road. However, he does plan on re-applying for the class of 2016, and see if he can create another option for next year. To qualify for one of these 140 spots you must complete basic training. If your son does go down the National Guard route, this may be an excellent idea to gain admittance to West Point. Hard to find a better education and leadership skills than at the Academy. Hope this gives you just one more idea for your DS to explore. Best to you... KevsPop[/QUOTE

One of our cadets attended Marist College so he could participate in ROTC while reapplying to USMA. He got a 3.6 and was accepted to USMA the next Fall. Marist College is the closest ROTC training location to USMA.

no AROTC offers,but its ok..

Good Morning Everybody,My son's status has never changed beyone it saying he was eligilble and so forth...I e-mailed some of the people at the colleges he chose to find out what up..Both told me that he was not on the list to recieve any offers...I(mom) am disappointed but relieved..it's over, all the waiting, all the mail box staliking...we had a back-up plan for him to attend WVU. It is fully paid for with I guess you would have to say money in his pocket...he is already in the guard with an AIT date of aug..so he will start in the spring, but will recieve credits for attending basic and AIT..He's fine with all that...the really pricey schools that we listed would be a dream to attend, but as he says,I will be great no matter where I go...His sister is being commissioned at WVU next month with adventual orders for Korea...everything works out...its a great releif in reality! I have enjoyed having this forum to read and its great to have company who understands all that you and your kid are going through...thanks and Good luck to everyone !

To all those that received a scholarship… Congratulations! You worked hard and this is your payback. To all those white males that received a scholarship, your qualifications were so good that you beat the odds and still made it even though minority applicants meeting minimum requirements were placed ahead of you. GOOD JOB!!!

For those that did not receive the scholarship, keep your head up. There will be opportunities at the school of your choice.

I am not sure why you would state the comment about white males in the post.

I have my guesses, but I still don't think we need to make this into a race/sex issue.

I do agree with your last statement that there will be opportunities in front of you that you have yet to envision.

Marist Bonus

Plus if you send your DS or DD, you have the added bonus of getting one of the two top ROO's in the country:thumb:

USM option

WVrotcmom.... read the posts within the last 24 hours regarding USMA as an option going forward to attend West Point after one year of college. Seems your DS might be in this catagory. Best of luck

Not making it a “race/sex issue.". It is a fact that the administration is forcing the DoD to diversify the officer ranks to match the diversity of the enlisted ranks. My Congressman has confirmed that minorities have been given “special consideration” in the board selections of all the services for ROTC scholarships this go round. Therefore, any white males that did in fact get the scholarship deserve extra kudos for having such qualifications as to overcome that huge obstacle.

GoinBroke

Your comments are totally inappropriate and do not belong on forums as professional as this one. Having a "MINORITY" DS who received a 4-yr to the SMC of his choice, he was more than qualified and exhibited the "whole person" concept that has been discussed here on these forums.

It does not matter if your white, black, latino(a), asian, or whatever, an officer still has to lead and provide an example to his/her soldiers, and at the end of the day its transparent to what race you are.

Although I do somewhat agree with you. Specifically in regard to the administration forcing diversity on the DOD, that is no secret. I believe you went too far with your statement in this forum.

As the mother of one of those white boys who didn't get a scholarship, it really doesn't matter who did get one, black, yellow, purple or blue. Sometimes life isn't fair and yes, it sucks, but race issues, as well as political issues, are not part of this forum thread. We support the kids period.

Now, here's something OT, but you all might want to help me out....I'm considering returning to college for an associates degree in Medical Information Technologies/Unit coodinator/Coding Specialist. Anyone with medical careers, please feel free to contact me via PM -- 44 years old and considering college with my 2 kiddos, who'd have thunk it:wink:

Not making it a “race/sex issue.". .

:frown: Too late...sad but you already did. We know that diversifying exists, but that doesn't mean those chosen were not qualified. DS is fair haired WM non scholarship and I would never sow the seeds of dissension in him toward anyone else that may have won when he did not. GoinBroke whether you intended that or not I can not judge, but that is the result of that kind of post.

Going away for the weekend with my DS to a Christian Youth convention. I think I have A LOT to be thankful for regardless of scholarship outcome. I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter. Thanks for the support these last months. I will check back on Sunday or Monday to see how things finally turned out for everyone.
