Naval Academy Summer Seminar 2009

K.Kiefer04 -
Congratulations on the Eagle Scout. We have two scouts - 1 Eagle and 1 Star (soon to be Life).
Our son was a Life Scout and student pilot when he was accepted to NASS 2007. He made Eagle before NASS, but didn't update application until he filled out the full app.

NHUSNAhopeful! I'm definitely pulling for you! I received mine back in December and it was one of the best days of my life! Hopefully that happens to your son soon :)

SoCal Session III

Got into session III from SoCal Chula Vista / San Diego!
Quick question if anyone can answer it, when I take my flight and land at the designated air port will Midshipmen be there to transport me to the academy and likewise back to the airport after the seminar?

If I remember correctly, two years ago, they did have Midshipmen at the Airport and they ran a schuttle service every hour or so most of the afternoon. They do ask you to arrive in a certain time period (I think it was 1100 to 1700 for my daughter) and they will ask for your flight info to make sure no one gets left behind. They also ask that on the last day you only schedule your flight after a certain time. I do not know what that time is. Do not worry, they will do their best to take care of you. If you have any problems, my daughter will be on the detail this summer, she will be the one in the white uniform.

Have a great time!!

Go Navy! Beat Army!

Hurry up and wait really does seem to fit the bill ;). And thanks for the congratulations, I'm in a Warrior out of Waterbury-Oxford (KOXC) in Oxford, CT. How about you?

I'm still waiting as well. I'm located in Kentucky - District 2. Does anyone know how a histrory of asthma as a child will affect me getting in to NASS? I listed on my application I have never been hospitalized for asthma, never had a asthma attack, and have never received ongoing treatment for asthma. I was a child when I was diagnosed. I think my app. is strong - Eagle Scout, Varsity Football, National Honor Society, volunteer at local homeless shelter, volunteer for Special Olympics, serve at church, etc. but maybe not strong enough to outweigh the past dx. of asthma. Guess I'll know in six days. Time is almost up!

My son (now on the USNA class of 2013 waiting list and hoping for the big blue envelope with the offer) was diagnosed with sports-induced asthma when he was a child. He never had ongoing treatment - just the occasional inhaler when he needed it. He also had a strong application and did, in fact, get into the May 2008 Summer Seminar session.

Thanks for the info. That's good to know. I guess there's still hope.

Still Waiting

I live in Israel but I am an American. Anyways I am still waiting but because it is Passover the mail is not coming every day. So I called about NASS and they told me I was on the waiting list. I hope I get in for the 3rd session

Nass Waiting List

That is good info. Thank you for posting that as I wasn't aware there was a waiting list for Summer Seminar. It will be good to know either way so I'll be able to plan around football camps, etc. Right now I'm (many of us?) are in limbo, especially for third session. I'm guessing that is probably a popular time since schools are likely out across the nation. I know what my parents mean by being disappointed by seeing nothing but bills and junkmail in the mailbox.

so i'm hoping some notifications might come today???? saturday seems like a popular day.* fingers crossed for acceptances you guys! :)

Right now I'm (many of us?) are in limbo, especially for third session.

I am but that is because my school doesn't get out till the 17th to begin with and I am moving from Israel to Tijuana/ San Diego (long story) and school starts there July 27th. But the good news is if I am in NASS I have other things to do in Washington Area and if I am not I have an aunt near by.

Well, no news for me today. Does anyone know how and when the notification arrives if you do not get in, letter? email? I'd love to think "no news is good news", but I guess since no one has actually received a rejection lettter, they are probably sending them out together after all the slots are filled.

Last year we found out by a letter. But I heard some are getting emails this year. Good luck! And if you don't get in, its definitely not the end of the road :)

NASS rejection/acceptance

On a different college site, someone posted the following on 4/02/09 regarding NASS:

My son chatted with Naval Academy on CollegeWeekLive (a virtal college fair). They said that 75% of acceptances have been mailed. All acceptances and rejections should be mailed by April 15, since application deadline was March 31.

no news either...I'm keeping my fingers but by now it doesn't matter if I get in or not I just want to hear from them...whether its acceptance or rejection I just want to hear from them!

hahaha! i know EXACTLY how you feel.

its just like... please please please don't keep me hanging anymore

Called in this morning because I got sick of waiting, said I didn't get in. In their way of trying to make me feel better, the admissions guy said that they had so many great applicants and not enough spots for the session I chose (I listed that I could only attend the last one, it's not my fault that my school is still in session during the first two). He also said that only about a third of the people accepted for summer seminar actually get into the academy for the next class. However, that still would have been a third better chance than before to get in. Eh, whatever. I started my ROTC scholarship applications (my original plan for commission) so hopefully things will work out. Thanks for you help guys.

Yeah, my school goes even later than that. I had to meet with my councilor to set-up final retakes so that I could attend the last session.
