BAD NEWS TODAY
talked to admissions and they told me i was not acccepted. not even waitlisted. honestly, very discouraging. i've been working my entire high school career to get into this program, and they don't even deem me worthy of the wait list.
i spoke with my regional counselor: which made me feel worse/better at the same time. he reviewed my application, and told me he honestly could not tell me anything to improve (except that test scores can virtually ALWAYS be raised). He said I was a very strong and competitive candidate for admission to USNA (team captain, club president, 3 sport varisty athlete, club officer, student government position, almost 300 hrs of community service, many other leadership positions, high gpa in honors/ap courses- including calc bc, well above average test scores, highly competitive high school, etc etc etc)
BUT I did not meet criteria they were looking for in NASS. he said my strong app was far better suited for the academy. and that they have "virtually nothing to do with eachother". he also said "only about 20 to 25% of NASS attendees will recieve appointments".
still. i am discouraged and a bit confused. admin counselor said that if i was from any other area i would have gotten in. if he can't tell me what to improve, how can i ever get into the academy, when i'm not even wait listed??
also, i was accepted to USAFA and USMA Summer Seminars....it makes me feel like they want me more than Navy does (even though I've always leaned towards Navy). So while I will still pursue an appointment to USNA, I can't help but feel a bit more "liked" by USAFA and USMA.
ok. sorry. that was long winded.
but i was wondering what you guys think: admin counselor said they use NASS as more of a recruiting tool to reach out to kids who they think may not be "on the college track" or have not really "considered the academy". what do you think about this? does this give "strong candidates" who are not accepted a fair shot and good view of the academy?
....just thinking....
I have still not received any notification as to my acceptance or rejection. I believe that I am qualified (3/303 class rank, 4.5 weighted GPA, 220 PSAT, 2180 SAT, community service and service clubs, two varsity athletics). My friend in Maryland (I am in PA) was accepted and he does not do nearly as well in school. I emailed USNA on 22 April and they told me they are in the process of notifying applicants. I thought it was "no later than mid-April."
Is this normal?
The nail biting continues.

Is Illinois a competitive state? I talked to someone in admissions at an online college chat room, and I believe he did say that Illinois was a fairly competitive state.
Anyone from IL make it into NASS? I am still waiting for any contact or information about whether I got in or not. However, I was accepted into both USMA and USAFA summer sessions.

I would think that MD would be very competitive as well with its close proximity to the academy.from what I have gathered from this site, PA is a VERY competetive state. Yeah, you might be an awesome person for the academy, but the SS is generally more focussed on geography and equal representation. It sounds dumb, but it's the truth.
Keep trying! If I were you, I would be calling non-stop lol
Try webmail@usna.edu. They tell you to contact them at that address when you get your confirmation message stating that they received your application. I got a response from that.M19
I'm also from Illinois (10th district). Not sure of the competition levels of the state, but i know 10th district is hard-core. I also was accepted to both ASAFA and USMA summer seminars and have not heard either way from Navy. Kind of disappointing... Someone from my school has been accepted to NASS so i figure he represents my geographical area and i'm not going.
I've emailed my regional director and the admissions@usna.edu and have not gotten a reply. I think I will have to call and be assertive if i want to go.
4thHey! I'm from PA as well. What district are you?
