NROTC Marine Option Scholarship

Congrats to all who have earned a scholarship.

Be on the lookout for some paperwork to sign indicating your acceptance of the scholarship. (this is non-binding so don't worry too much) The packet will also have details about DODMERB (physical exam) and instructions for wait listing or moving the scholarship to other schools. If you have any broken bones or other medical history I recommend you begin contacting Doctors and gathering as much documentation as you can just in case you need it for remedials, etc.

Good luck with the next phase of the process.

Thank you! Quick question regarding the DODMERB physical examination. I read somewhere that this is done in the summer before entering the program. Is this true or is it as soon as I officiall get the scholarship? Curious to know if I should be getting on top of that doctor paperwork now or if I have until the summer. Thank you again.

rpcooke98: You have been selected for the scholarship - you don't have it yet. You have to pass the DODMERB physical, stay out of trouble, maintain your grades, report to your school and then pass a physical fitness test before it actually turns on.

So yes, you should begin to get on top of all MD paperwork.

Also, regarding the physical - it will take place in the next 4-6 weeks or so. You will be notified on the process soon.

Still have not heard any word on my status. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. Is there anyone that has received a scholarship in my area?

Yeah if everyone could put their locations when they hear, that would be a huge help. It would put a lot of us at ease I think:)

Also for those who received the MO scholarship, did your portal update?

Last year, the portal did not update until January -- after son was notified just before Christmas that he rec'd the scholarship from the early board. The portal is the last to know.

Congratulations to all the NROTC MO scholarship winners once again. Thought I might include links here to some of my favorite Youtube videos that you might find inspirational. For me they were a way to feel connected to my son when he was just too darn busy to call. Hope at least some of you enjoy them.

This one I call "the brochure". It explains what your getting into and something about the next 4 years although they do skim over some details. It's useful to explain to family and friends what it's all about. It should fire you up. BTW, listen closely to the Marine who begins "The best back home may be just good enough to barely make it here....". One of the truest statements I ever heard.

This one is pretty inspirational and somehow always makes me teary-eyed...

This one is an overview of OCS... the pinnacle of your upcoming challenge... still 4 years away for you folks.

I know my son enjoyed every minute in NROTC and is enjoying every minute in the Corps. If you're not having aa good time, after all, then what's the point?

There are plenty of other videos out there on Youtube... search for 'em. Good Luck!Enjoy being a Midshipman.

My recruiter just told me I did not recieve the scholarship. Only 3 people out of all southern Texas got it :frown:

I was in my BGO interview for USNA when my recruiter called have to wait till tomorrow at 12:30 to find out. Very nervous. Im going out of the Colombia SC recruiting depot. Anyone hear from them, good news or otherwise?

I was finally notified that I received the scholarship to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University! And surprisingly I am the only Arkansan in the last 5 years to receive the scholarship.

mgreen: congrats to your son. Shocked to hear how rapidly the portal was updated.
