Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

I am new to this forum. I have been stalking the mailbox for weeks unaware that this site existed. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not because now I'm stalking this site! LOL

I have noticed there is not one appointment from my DS's state, is that a good thing? Do they release appointments state by state? Surely someone from our state qualified...Also, can anyone tell me how I determine which district I am in?

What state?

Hi and welcome!

First we need to know your state, I guess. You didnt say what it is. Then you can google your congress person's name, and their website should say what district you live in. Who did your DD/DS interview with for nominations?

Or, you can google a map of congressional districts in your state, and then see where your county/town falls out on the map.

We can help you if we know your state and some of the other information, or you can look it up on your own. :smile:

Our state is Michigan, I did Google our MOC and we are the 2nd District. Just got the mail. Opened box, saw a small white envelope with an American flag and briefly glimpsed the word "service"...started to black out, turned it over and it was from the Paralyzed Veterans of America asking for a donation. Really not dealing with this stalking very well....LOL

I think all the latest appointments have been notified by MOC phone call. Some MOCs choose not to call and the appointee will just receive a BFE. But the BFEs probably won't start showing up until next week.
 
Phone call

When DD started the planning process for getting an appointment to USAFA (back in the 8th grade) we thought it was about “building a resume” and trying to get as many points as possible added to the WCS by checking each and every “box”. As time evolved it became very clear that it was NOT about keeping your eye on the competition and trying to beat the kid in front of you to “win the slot”. It really was about being the healthiest, brightest and most caring person that you could possibly be. The WCS is what it is. In fact when we look at all of the great candidates out there, DD’s scores will likely be viewed as “average” for the class of 2016 but she can honestly say they represent 110% effort in every category. Knowing this year is the perfect storm for appointments, she started rolling forward with plan B. That was OK. Even plan B was only possible because she constantly stretched herself and developed into a wonderful young woman while focusing on the USAFA application process for the last 4-5 years. Fortunately, we received the good news of a pending appointment on March 22 through a personal call from Sen. Dan Coats (Indiana). Plan A is now a real opportunity for her. She feels very, fortunate and even “lucky” for the appointment but we, her parents, KNOW we have been blessed with a great child. In hindsight it appears the entire process is meant to be a wonderful test of the many attributes required for a successful academy experience: tireless work ethic, strong faith, seemingly endless endurance, and very quiet patience.

To all of the hard working young men and women who are still waiting - our thoughts and prayers are with each of you. WE KNOW what you are feeling. Keep your faith and always know that the whole process has been a blessing to you and your family no matter what the outcome.

Sorry for the confusion. I only used the word pending because DD does not yet have the BFE. The Senator told her she had an appointment.

Have not seen any activity recently in the Ca. districts. I wounder if next week things may start rolling.
 
I just received the much awaited phone call from my congresswoman while I was sitting in a movie theater waiting for The Hunger Games to start. I almost didn't answer the phone because I didn't recognize the number, but my friend said, "Answer it. You are waiting for a phone call anyway."

I would like to thank all of the people on this forum for answering questions and offering your advice. It helped me tremendously.
