Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

I've been following this thread for months, but have only just now joined into the discussion. I've received zero word from USAFA, my portal says the same thing that it always has (Candidate, complete, qualified, nomination received, etc.) and I haven't received anything in the mail. Still waiting, I suppose. I have been in touch with my ALO, and he told me he'd see what's going on at their end because we hadn't received news in so long.
I originally posted to ask what TWE and the similar acronym (I believe it was QNR?) stand for, because I've been seeing them a lot lately, but I'd also like to know if anyone can give some insight as to what chances I still have for admission for this year. If I missed the first couple of waves of appointments but wasn't told "no," then what does that mean for me? Is it even possible to still receive a BFE like all of the regular appointments, or is that stretch of the race over?
Reluctantly preparing the final bits of plan B, but hoping desperately for positive AFA notification.
They sent out a lot of TWE's last Friday. Many received them yesterday and I would guess virtually all will receive them by today. If you don't get one you are still in the hunt. It has been posted that 100-150 applicants will be reviewd after April 15. They didn't say for how many appointments but they probably don't know yet because they don't know what the acceptance rate will be on the ones offered. Good luck but keep moving on plan B.

I have been following this thread for awhile and my heart breaks for the many fine applicants who received TWE's this year. Last year my DS applied and got a QNV letter at the end of March. (I wish we knew about this forum last year). He was devastated, but he is currently a freshman in college with an ROTC scholarship. He loves ROTC but he applied to USAFA again this year. He received the wait list email last Friday. Can anyone tell me if they have already sent out 1050 appointments? A week or so ago we heard that only 500 appointments had gone out - can that really be true this late in the game? Is the wait list = to the 100-150 files that will still be reviewed? What about the applicants who haven't received a TWE or a wait list notification? Good luck to everyone on whatever path you follow. It is an honor and privilege to serve your country regardless of how you get there.

Anyone else out there still waiting?

Knittle, ArapWarrior, and Haley are I believe. May be a few others but can't remember them off the top of my head.

Still waiting in NH

My DS and I spoke last night fully anticipating the TWE in today's mail. However, we did not receive any correspondence from the AFA as of yet. Plan B is in place but he just can't get excited about it until he has an answer from the Academy. I must admit mailbox stalking isn't the same as it use to be...

Dutchman's TWE arrived yesterday

At least we were not on the highly probable list. With our 30 ACT, 3.86, CAP, Summer Seminar, Varsity B-Ball, top rated pianist, pilot, 100's of service hours ...... always knew ours was a B+ chance. It has got to really hurt for A/A+ candidates. Our liaison officer and congressional staffer said that in any other year..... we would have been in.

According to their rumor mill.
NOT what the ALO force is hearing...

Numbers "probably" will be a bit higher, but not inordinately so. I've heard numbers bandied about in the 1100 - 1125 range BUT BUT BUT that is NOT official!

USAFA/RR will ONLY know an approximate number they can "shoot" for after the new class is in place, the year has progressed into academics, the first semester is complete, grades are out, etc...etc...and then they will start their attrition "guesstimating" and will come up with (I would think) a conservative estimate of the class of 2017.

And that estimate will change MANY times as the numbers change.

Flieger, is it accurate that any additional slots over this years 1050 will be added to the wait pool? Say 2017's class size is to be 1100 that would add 50 more slots in the wait pool over 2016?

Anyone else out there still waiting?

DS is still waiting, but he probably won't know til 5/16. He was a free agent at NWP and is currently doing AFROTC at our state university. He will continue there if he is unsuccessful again this year.

Best wishes and prayers for all those still waiting, hang in there!

I don't know how USAFA is managing the "wait pool" but my educated "guess" would be that they will NOT "hold" anyone over for next year.

While it's a great thought, it wouldn't be fair to the next cycle's candidates: they need to compete with everyone on a level field. And if USAFA did hold them over, they would in effect be telling members of congress "here's your nominee..." as those "held over" would still need to meet the legal requirements for appointment. And I can't think of any member of congress that is going to let any SA "tell them" who the nominee is!

Wouldn't work.

My Son received his TWE today and his stats are almost identical to yours: 3.87 GPA, 1960 SAT, Private Pilot, XC and Track Runner (captain 2 years, all-state), Summer Seminar (CFA Award), NHS, community service, etc. It just wasn't meant to be for him. He's okay and moving forward to achieve his goal of becoming an officer and pilot. He'll get there! It's been a real pleasure reading about all of these outstanding young people! Best of luck to everyone where ever you end up!

Whoa not what I meant. Sorry.
I meant would next years National Wait List be 50 slots larger than this years. in my example.

Best wishes to everyone

All I can say is that those who decide to continue via AFROTC are going to be a very special group. There are so many excellent people out there who are not getting appointed. It is truly humbling.

I'm wondering if any IC's have received the TWE. Did I read correctly that the IC numbers are very low this year? How will that affect appointments?
