So, my status on my ROTC portal changed to:
Boarded/Under Consideration:
This applicant was boarded on the first Selection Board that convened on 09 DEC 19. Unfortunately this applicant did not receive an offer from that board. These applicants remain eligible to receive offers from our January and or March selection boards. No additional documents are required. Please continue to monitor this page for status updates.

Which is fine, we're past that.

But I just got an email saying I've been offered an ECP scholarship? Uh... I thought I chose not to compete for one of those. In fact, I just checked my portal and saw that I DIDN'T opt to compete for an ECP scholarship.

Is this normal? Am I still going to be considered? Is this the only offer I'll get? Anyone else gotten this?

Hey man no sweat I got the exact same thing! Some what bummed but it's not the end of the world, we still have 2 more boards to go. I didn't receive any other scholarships of sorts such as the ECP you got.

One more thing, is that I saw on the portal you can continue to update your application for the next board.

NOTE: Applicants who were previously boarded but not selected to receive a scholarship, can continue to submit documents to increase their chance for selection.
However, all application updates must be SUBMITTED no later than 09 March 2020 @ 1159pm EST to be considered for a scholarship during the final board that convenes on 23-27 March 2020.

I put everything that I had on the table, but if any of you have any other documents to upload it could increase your chances.

The same thing happened to me

Here is our example and I hope it gives you hope: My DD applied for AROTC in June 2017. The first Selection Board was in October that year and her status moved to Boarded/Under Consideration. The same information was given about waiting for the next couple of scheduled reviews. In February 2018, a couple weeks after the Second Selection Board, she was notified of being awarded. In the mail came an official padded portfolio of a 3 year award that would be active upon her sophomore year while having participated in first year ROTC. In April 2018 just 2 months later, she was notified via an email that she was upgraded to a 4-year scholarship. Patience is a virtue. She is now in her second year of Nursing school and loves the Army ROTC program at FSC. We had no exposure to the ECP and never heard of it. Follow AROTC-DAD advice. Good luck..just be patient.

Was she offered an ECP scholarship after the first board and turned it down?

Hi AROTC- dad, do you know what would be the process for an ECP 2LT to compete for active duty after revoking his reserve status? It seems that some of these ROTC offices don't have a clue on the process for an ECP 2LT student.

I am just a dad and my DS, who is now a 2LT, did not ascend via ECP, so I can only convey what I have read online.

According to the linked document of FAQ's from VFMC below, All ECP cadets commission into the Reserve component after completing their associate's degree, and serve in the reserves or NG while finishing their bachelor's degree at a follow on four-year school.

If an ECP cadet wishes to compete for active duty, they must request to revoke their reserve status during their sophomore year at the ECP school. If that is approved , they will then compete for active duty during their senior year along with all the other ROTC cadets for that year's cohort.

I believe that simply means that your overall stats compete with the OML system in place that year. Branching however, is now changed to a talent based system.

I apologize, I thought you had a son/daughter that was picked under the ECP program. My son went to VFMC, got his associate's and commissioned and finishing up his bachelor's. I'm just trying to find out more info on my own because he mentioned that some of his classmates from VFMC already received their orders for after they finish their bachelor's. I would like to know how this process works, how the ROTC from the college he goes to is involved, etc.

The demand for competent active duty Army officers is pretty high right now, so if your son is reasonably good on the OML with grades and leadership, he should have a good shot at active duty. Just make sure he expresses his interest and meets the deadlines.

Good luck!

Do a good search through this forum and you'll find some discussions on the ECP program. The common answer is that while possible, it can be very difficult to get released from their Reserve obligation to be able to compete for AD through the ECP program. You'll read that some have done it but the number that don't is much higher. Just make sure to read all the information regarding ECP and have a good understanding of the program, some within the programs will tell you that you simply make the request to switch to AD, while technically true, it's a small percentage. Read all the fine print and try and talk with some who have gone through the program before accepting anything.

Jcleppe, my son already did ECP, got his associate's and commissioned. He is now finishing up his bachelor's but he haven't received no info whatsoever on what he needs to do after his bachelor's. It seems that not many people knows about the ECP (and even people that have done a career in the service) to include ROTC staff. I believe that the staff in charge of the ECP program should inform newly lieutenants on what their next step should be.

Before your son commissioned he would have had to apply at his junior college for his GRFD number to be revoked.
If he did not apply for it then he is automatically a reserve/national guard officer from that point forward.
If he did apply and it was not granted (last I knew it had to be granted by his PMS, big Army, and Cadet Command) he is automatically a reserve/national guard officer from that point forward.

If it was granted then Cadet Command has him in their system and he should be able to go to the Human Resource officer at the school he is at now and have them gather information.

Every follow on school is different as far as what they expect from ECP LT's, but at a minimum he should have been reporting to the HR person at his current school to provide information that he is still enrolled and on track to graduate as they have to forward that information on to cadet command.

I'm guessing that if he indeed got his number revoked and is eligible for active duty it might still be a little soon for him to be getting that information.

My DS did ECP and commisioned in 2015 but the program has changed from then to now.
