Permit to Report Packet

DH just called, Permit to Report packet arrived today.

Report time for DS is 8am

Heard back from Plebe son....he says a letter arrived in June that told what company he was in and how to address mail.

Also...an early report time is a blessing in disguise. Allows more time throughout the day for unpacking the supplies plebe receives into his/her new room. NAPsters and priors report a day early, so having a few of them in your company is helpful: they can show how to fold, make bed, etc. Once the plebes get into their whiteworks (think Popeye's sailor suit), which occurs before they get out of Alumni Hall, a helpful and knowledgeable NAPster will be the first to use a Tide pen on them!

Anyway, fret not over the early times. Your day will go smoother and you will be unpacked before swearing-in ceremony.

Son's report time was 6 or 6:30 am, a local television crew was on hand. As he walked in, they filmed him, asking what he was expecting. The detailers near the door to Alumni Hall said "Hurry up and get in here, Hollywood!" Also on hand are chaplains passing out kleenex to parents, and alumni/parent group members serving coffee.

Also, a point of information: Members of the Class of 1964 will be on hand I-Day. Parents will get to visit with them at lunch on the parade field and you will see them occupying a place of honor at swearing in. They will interact with your class several times through their USNA years.

A little tip for all incoming Plebes: do NOT use the restroom just before you enter Alumni Hall.

My son did that last year and when it was time to "donate for the drug test" he just plain couldn't. The detailers made him and a few others drink 3 cantines full of water, which was way too much. Using the head during the rest of the day was impossible and he ended up ready to burst and miserable during the swearing in ceremony

Packet received today report time will come later---waiting for DS to return from Track meet --thought he would want the honors!

Packet arrived yesterday via express mail, same as appointment. Postage was $6.31, so that tells you how heavy it was.

9:00 a.m. report time.

Son is a bit overwhelmed by everything in the packet.

It is overwhelming. Lots to fill out. A word of advice: parents, sit down with the plebe-to-be and go through it all. It really hits home that your child is not simply going off to college when you have to fill out forms designating beneficiaries and who to call should the worst happen. It is a lot for an 18 year old - and their parents - to absorb.

Son got his packet yesterday, 630am report time. He was hoping for later, but I don't think he'd be sleeping to much anyway. He'll appreciate the extra time to get settled.
Hope to get thru the packet this weekend.

Son received his package in the mail yesterday.....report time of 9:15....

630am report time......son said that will give him more time to be yelled at.

0700 report time. Glad we made hotel reservations in advance so we can drive up the night before. Does anyone know if there is a rhyme or reason to how report times are generated? Is it by company?

Along with not using the bathroom, make sure they eat before going in. Last year, a few past out while having their blood drawn, and I guess they take a few vials. With all the excitement, and anticipation and nerves, forgetting to eat can add to it.

My daughter, F, is 9:15. I think someone out there knows that I am not very good at 6:00 am stuff! Ha Ha!

I am happy to read the advice about eating, peeing, drinking, etc., keep it coming!!

Daughter is down at CVW this weekend - another chance to see where she will wind up. Someone asked if she was trying to decide (nope! - already made her mind up after NASS last year), I encouraged her to accept the CVW when she got it way back in January and this was the only date she could attend....good thing, because my husband and I are trying to keep her away from any of the usual Senior year antics that could be a problem. In a town of 21,000 within 6.1 square miles and a police force of 45, what do you think the cops are doing on a Fri/Sat night - looking for kids doing what they do.....lovely daughter is the designated driver usually but NO WAY do I want her entangled in the mess other kids create.

Graduation only 7 days before I-Day, but trip to Cancun with only me over Memorial Day weekend is special treat - another weekend away from the antics.

How many days to I-Day???
